This week the spotlight shone this week about the relationship between Patrick Mahomes and Tommy Tuberville – or the lack thereof.
On Wednesday, President Donald Trump connected the two for the first time when he wrongly claimed that the Republican senator had coached the Quarterback of Kansas City Chiefs during his time at Texas Tech – despite the couple that never crossed paths at the college.
The confusion escalated on Thursday when Tuberville, the Senator from Alabama, ran Trump's claim.
Although he confessed that he had never coached the triple Super Bowl winner, Tuberville did claim the honor of recruiting the program.
“What happened is that I recruited him, and then I left and went to another school, but I had to be very good friends with him,” Tuberville said during an appearance on the Megyn Kelly show.
“He is not only a good athlete, he is a very good example for many of our young young people in this country.”

However, the memory of the 70-year-old is not entirely in line with Mahomes' memory of his recruitment from universities.
At an embarrassing moment for the Senator and Trump, the Chiefs signal eager not only insisted that Tuberville did not recruit him, he could not remember that he had ever met the former head coach of the University Football.
“He didn't recruit me at the time,” Mahomes said the Philadelphia Inquirer. “I don't know if I've ever met him or not.”
While Tuberville in fact coached the Red Raiders, his term of office lasted only two years, from 2010 to 2012.
The first season of Mahomes during the program only came in 2014, in which he played under the replacement of Tuberville, Kliff Kingsbury.
The Signal Admopter played three years in Lubbock, Texas before being explained in 2017 for the NFL Draft. He was selected by the Chiefs with the number 10 general choice.
In the meantime, Tuberville was accepted in 2012 at the head coaching position at the University of Cincinnati.
Tuberville, who played safety in Southern State during his own match days, coached the Bearcats until 2016 before entering the world of politics in 2020.
Tuberville, who has written a bill from the Senate to codify the executive command of Trump entitled 'Men Out of Women's Sports' in the law, recorded the office as a senator from Alabama in January 2021.
Trump will appear historically in the Super Bowl this weekend as the first sitting president to attend the game.
He has been very free for Trump in the structure. When asked in the Oval Office that he wants to win, Trump said: “I don't want to say, but there is a certain quarterback that seems to be a fairly good winner.”
He posted the game on Truth Social on Friday and also expanded his praise to Travis Kelce: 'Two great Quarterbacks in this game. Also an incredible run back and the absolutely best tight end in football (once!). Incredible coaching!
'If they would only get rid of that really strange looking new kick -off' deal ', making football actually more dangerous, they would do everyone, especially the fans, a big favor.
'Anyway, it will be a great game !!! I will do the interview, before the competition, at 3 p.m. none has been in four years (I wonder why?). '
