The ‘optical illusion’ trend that celebs like Molly-Mae and Rihanna are loving this fall

If you look at Hollywood movies, kids are bullied at school because they wear glasses.

But a slew of celebrities are making the specs look stylish this fall — even the ones who DON’T need to see them.

From Bella Hadid rocking a pair on the YSL runway during Paris Fashion Week to Molly-Mae Haag pairing a pair with her new fashion line yesterday, glasses are slowly becoming chic.

However, it has been a long road.

In the 1990s and 1990s, glasses were associated with being nerdy.

Especially for schoolchildren, a few specs on your face made you stand out as ‘different’.

Going optical is a style statement.

Social norms have been broken down and the boundaries of fashion have been pushed, meaning those of us with poor eyesight can breathe a sigh of relief.

Our bad vision is not only trendy, but it’s something that celebrities somewhat celebrate through fashion.

Molly-Mae, 25, took to Instagram from the streets of Paris yesterday in a pair of aviators with clear lenses.

The ASOS DESIGN Aviator Clear Lens Blue Light Lens Glasses are currently just £11.20 in the e-retail giant’s sale.

Fans quickly begged the mother of one and owner of Maebe for a link to purchase a pair for themselves.

“Oh my god, you with the glasses,” Monie Newton gushed in the comments section.

“Molly-Mae, you are so comfortable wearing glasses,” Clare Caffery added.

Supermodel Bella Hadid, 27, is regularly pictured wearing clear lens glasses.

And if her recent runway appearances are to be believed, she’s keeping the nerd-chic trend going this fall.

Likewise, Chelsea Lazkani from Netflix’s hit series Selling Sunset is a proud glasses wearer.

The 31-year-old has a range of distinctive styles that she rocks on and off the show, including classic ‘nerd’ shapes with thin rectangular lenses and barely-there edges.

Chelsea’s fans regularly describe her as “sex on legs” in her Instagram comments, proving that nerdy can be attractive too.

Another spec enthusiast is singer and beauty mogul Rihanna.

Fantastic fashion editor on fall trends

Do you want to look fantastic this season? Then listen…

Here, Fabulous’ fashion editor, Clemmie Fieldsend, says these are the top 5 trends from the hottest catwalk designers for Fall 2024.

BOHO: The boho revival is a much-needed breath of fresh air for autumn and means you can wear your sheer tops, girly dresses and oversized jeans with chunky boots.

But if the clothes aren’t for you, think big accessories like sloppy tote bags, big earrings and bigger bracelets.

TEXTURE: Whether it’s smooth leather, lush faux fur or soft suede, textures are everywhere this season.

They add depth to your look, making you stand out and also look more expensive.

BURGUNDY: Maroon, oxblood, berry: whatever you call it in fashion, it’s red this fall.

The deep and rich color is everywhere and works best with shades of gray, black, dark blue and from head to toe.

LADY LIKE: Matching top and cardigan sets and pencil skirts sound dated, but they go hand in hand with being ladylike.

Pair with satin cami dresses and fitted blazers for an ultra-feminine look.

LEOPARD PRINT: According to Tagwalk, 75% of the runway this season was leopard print – a vast majority.

It crept its way into last season, but it’s widespread in autumn and all over the high street, whether it’s shoes or floor-sweeping jackets, it’s a must-have trend.

Luxury fashion houses such as Gucci, Prada and Tom Ford have been delving into the world of glasses with clear lenses for decades.

It was inevitable that the style of luxury shoppers would at some point trickle down to the high street.

Now you can buy clear lens glasses everywhere, from Primark and Poundland to PrettyLittleThing and ASOS.

So, the next time you’re tempted to enter your contacts, maybe think twice.

Your glasses could be the best way to see the world… and for the world to see you.
