A few described how they took the heartbreaking decision to tell doctors to stop performing resuscitation on their sick 14-month old baby after they realized: “He was no longer there.”
Morgan and Cody Christofferson from Dundas, Minnesota, called the painful call after their son Soren was admitted to the hospital with heart complications.
The young person was born with various heart defects, including a hole in his heart and a missing artery, but defined the opportunities to reach his first birthday.
He recovered from a heart surgery when things went drastically downhill and he went into cardiac arrest.
Doctors were able to bring him back, but warned his parents that he was holding life and ran the risk of another episode. He was held in the hospital while his parents were fired at a nearby Ronald McDonald House.
On Easter Sunday of 2023, their worst fears were realized when they received a phone call at 5 am to say that Soren had again 'coded'.
They hurried to the hospital to find their 'worst nightmare', with a flurry of doctors fighting to save Soren who were connected to different tubes.
'While Cody and I were looking in the hallway while the nurses performed resuscitation on our son, we looked at everyone and knew that our little boy was no longer there. We immediately made the decision to stop resuscitation, “said Morgan.

A few described how they made the heartbreaking reason to tell doctors to stop performing CPR on their 14 -month -old baby, Soren Chrisofferson, after realizing himself: “He was no longer there”
'While we were sitting there for the last time our son, there was no dry eyes in that hospital room. Every nurse and doctor cried with us. '
Soren was the first child of Morgan and the second of her husband and the couple was excited as her pregnancy normally progressed.
During a 20 -week scan, however, the first sign of problems emerged.
“I thought it was strange when the ultrasound spent a lot of time taking photos of his heart, but as my first child, I thought it was routine, Morgan explained.
“Only when the Echo technology apologized from the room did I know that something was wrong, with a medical background I knew that it was not normal for a technology to leave during the middle of an exam.”
Their son was eventually diagnosed with pulmonary atresia with VSD and Mapcas.
Doctors were frank about his low chances of survival and warned that he could stop breathing as soon as the umbilical cord was cut.
But Soren defended the expectation and was born 'completely healthy' except his heart and seemed to bloom in the beginning.

But he defied the worst predictions of doctors and was initially relatively healthy except his heart that eventually started to cause problems
“Soren did great. He grew, drank his bottles and hit all his milestones. He made it 6 months old and he went for reconstructive surgery, “said Morgan.
After eight hours of operation, Soren arose with an artificial pulmonary artery and surgeons managed to close the gap in his heart.
However, the good times were short -lived and after Soren reached 12 months, his parents began to note that his hands and feet were always blue.
They took him back to the hospital and got the crushing news that he had completely right -sided heart failure.
While doctors started investigating the size of the problem, Soren suffered his first cardiac arrest.
Doctors succeeded in bringing him back with CPR and decided to connect him to an ECMO, a device that functions like the heart and lungs of a patient.
After 21 days connected to the machine, Soren underwent an open heart surgery and 'great'.
But the world of the couple came down with the 5 -hour phone call.

Although dokici could breathe new life into his parents made the devastating decision not to take any more resuscitation to allow him to go peacefully
“We ran through the hall and came on his floor to see our worst nightmare play for us,” said Morgan.
'There were doctors and nurses and cords and medicines that were everywhere. The doctor came to us and said, “We could get him back, but if he codes again, do you want us to do resuscitation again?”
Tragically enough they did not get their decision long, while Soren went into a cardiac arrest for the last time, because the couple decided to end the suffering of their son by refusing further resuscitation.
In the months that were followed, the family worked to keep the memory of Soren alive and welcomed another child, Rowen, who was born for only three months after he said goodbye.
“There is not a day when I don't think:” I wonder what life would be like if Soren was still there. '
“I see Rowen touching milestones and thinking:” Oh my God, I'm so proud of you “and then realize that Soren will never be able to do that,” Morgan said.
The couple expects their fourth child to be to Brayden, 13 and Rowen, 16 months.
'It has not been easy to be a mother and to deal with sorrow. I struggle with the question “how many children do you have?” Do I tell them about Soren or do I leave him away? “Morgan added.
'We believe that Soren always knew that he would not be here long. He was a lover and we have the feeling that his goal was to teach us how to love even deeper – and he did exactly that. '
