Richard Madeley, 68, has hit back at rumors he dyes his hair
He will be 69 next year.
But Richard Madeley still seems to be defying the aging process and shared how he does it on the White Wine Question Time podcast with Kate Thornton.
The TV presenter’s still brown hair has even led to rumors that he dyes his locks – which he quickly refuted during the interview.
“I have been accused of dying my hair lighter, which I always happily and honestly refute,” Richard laughed.
‘I don’t do that. It’s funny again, I’ve come full circle!’
The Good Morning Britain presenter added that when he was very little he was “really quite blond”, before he started to tan around “seven or eight”, and then became “quite a dark brown”.
And then, about “20 years ago,” Richard said he “started to go gray,”
“But when I’m in the sun, and we spend quite a bit of time in the south of France, we have a little spot there, and I’m in the pool and I come out of the pool, the sun lightens my hair,” he said.
“So when I came back, like in July, we got a couple of calls when I came back on air in July of this year asking, did he put streaks in his hair?
‘And to be honest, I didn’t do that.
“Honestly, it’s just sunshine!
“And I think it has to be. I think it might be the chemicals in the pool, I don’t know.”
Kate noted in the interview that Richard “could pass for a much younger man”.
But he said he thinks it’s because he’s grown older on camera.
“Don’t you think that’s because I’ve never actually been free… So you know, I’m slowly aging in front of the camera because I haven’t been away in five or 10 years,” he mused.
Richard also does his best to keep a close eye on his weight as he gets older.
“It’s important to watch your weight as you reach middle age, and in my case late middle age,” he said.
“Actually, I think you should say old age!”
Three hair mistakes that make you look older
THERE are some hair mistakes you should avoid if you don’t want to make yourself look older than you actually are:
- One-dimensional hair color – it’s a good idea to go to a hairdresser to get your color done. If you use a box paint, you may be left with one block color, so stay away.
- Hair that is too dark around the hairline – “Add softer, lighter shades and tones around the sides of the face to bring lift and life to your eyes; too dark a color will do the opposite and feel very stark and dreary,” says Jack Howard, UK color spokesperson for L’ Oréal, said.
- Holding on to the hair color of your youth – While you may have looked good with jet black hair in your twenties, that may no longer be said now that you’re fifty. The general rule is that your hair color should lighten as you age, just as your skin color does.
Richard also spoke about his wife Judy on the podcast, when he revealed that she is “really enjoying” being away from the small screen.
But she still finds the time to speak to her husband when he needs it.
“I think, to be honest, she challenges me more than I challenge her, but that’s probably because I deserve it,” he laughed.
‘I deserve it.
“I think our family and our friends would say that.
“It’s usually her, you know, who pulls me up instead of the other way around.”
