Attacker ‘injures several children in Swiss daycare’

Three children were injured after being attacked by a man at a daycare center in Switzerland, according to police.

Police launched a major operation after being informed of the attack, which took place around noon local time in northern Zurich.

Local residents in the Berninastrasse area reported seeing terrified parents running to look for their children when news of the attack broke.

‘There are at least six to seven police cars on the scene. The ambulance is also on the square with several vehicles,” an eyewitness told local media.

Police said they have now arrested the man suspected of committing the ‘violent crime’, but gave no further details on the nature of the attack.

‘Shortly after noon, the Zurich city police were alerted to a violent crime in Berninastrasse. Three children were injured,” Zurich city police said in a press release.

‘A suspect has been arrested in connection with this. There is no longer any danger to the population.’

The statement added that the man had “attacked several children.”

Neither the circumstances, the identity of the alleged attacker nor the severity of the children’s injuries were immediately known.

Police say more information will be provided later.
