It’s easy to let the passion fade after marriage, but vacations keep the spark alive
MARTIN and Shirlie Kemp have revealed their top tips to help couples with children keep the spark alive.
In a hilarious new video, the pair talk about prioritizing fun, ditching technology and not taking each other for granted.
Since their early twenties, the Kemps were together members of two of the world’s biggest bands: Spandau Ballet and Wham! – and went on to raise two children: musician and singer Harley Moon, 34, and broadcaster Roman, 31.
Known for embarrassing their children with public displays of affection, the famous couple wants to help other couples get their romance back on track with a fun how-to video.
Martin and Shirlie teamed up with easyJet Holidays to mark the launch of the ‘Rekindle the Romance’ package, which allows couples to add spa packages, a romantic dinner and champagne on arrival to selected packages.
Martin said, “It’s so easy to let the romance simmer, especially when your adult children are calling you every five minutes for advice on how to turn on the oven, or when you’re trying to keep up with after-school activities, playdates and other activities. the endless pile of dishes.”
Shirlie added: “We travel several times a year to stay connected, so we’ve enjoyed this campaign and sharing how we’ve kept the passion alive for over 36 years.”
It comes after a poll found the top ‘passion killers’ for couples with children are lack of sleep, messy homes and endless meal planning.
The survey of 1,750 couples with children found that endless to-do lists, including housework, entertaining children and DIY projects, had an impact on romance.
Eight in ten (81 percent) believe parenting duties affect their romantic spark, while only one in five (20 percent) go on date nights with their partner.
Nine in ten parents (91 percent) agreed that ‘couple time’ is essential to their relationship, but 61 percent sometimes feel guilty for wanting it.
It also found that parents spend an average of three hours a month watching children’s programs, two hours tidying up toys, one hour and 45 minutes tidying up food mess and three hours shopping.
While parents of adult children spend more than two hours in a month fielding phone calls, compared to less than an hour thinking about date night.
However, many parents would like to rekindle the spark; two-thirds (62 percent) plan to book a high-quality mini vacation together.
Half of couples (49 percent) admit that they are the best version of themselves on holiday, while 48 percent take the time to enjoy a nice meal together.
Four in ten people hold hands more often on holiday and 28 percent take more time for in-depth conversations with their partner.
However, more than a quarter of parents (27 percent) find it difficult to choose the right destination, which throws a spanner in the works.
But the most popular destinations for a romantic getaway are Sorrento, Santorini, Nice, Madeira and the Algarve.
