Fortunately, hardware store B&Q has a must-have to stay warm this winter and it’s also super affordable.

The electric blanket is available online, not in stores, and is the perfect way to go to bed comfortably without freezing.

The heated electric underblanket goes under your fitted sheet to warm the bed before you get in.

It has a safety feature to ensure it doesn’t overheat and shut down when it does.

Additionally, the blanket has three different heat settings that can be changed with the included remote control to suit your personal needs.

It comes in three sizes, with the single costing £16.99, a double for £29.99 and a king-size for £34.99.

Moreover, the blanket is machine washable, so you don’t have to worry about spilling a cup of coffee or your breakfast in bed on it.

B&Q bosses say: “Our heated underblanket is designed for the modern lifestyle and is the perfect companion for those cozy Sunday mornings when breakfast in bed becomes a much-loved ritual.

“Imagine being able to enjoy your favorite morning treats without the fear of accidentally spilling them.

“The washing machine-friendly feature means you can enjoy breakfast in bed guilt-free, knowing that any accidents will be washed away effortlessly.”

My feet always freeze in winter – my £1 hack keeps them toasty warm without having to turn the heating on

According to research from Uswitch, these gadgets use 100 watts of energy to warm up a double bed before switching to sleep mode or turning off.

A 100W electric blanket running seven hours a week would consume 0.7 kWh.

Based on the current limit, it costs 24 cents to run a 100W electric blanket for one hour per day for seven days.

If you were to use an electric blanket for one hour a day, every day of the week, for a year, it would cost you a total of €12.48.

5 ways to keep your house warm in winter

Real estate expert Joshua Houston shared his tips.

1. Curtains

“Windows are a common place for the cold from outside to enter your home, this is due to small openings that can let air in, so always close your curtains as soon as it gets dark,” he said.

This simple method gives you an extra layer of warmth because it can provide a kind of “insulation” between your window and curtain.

2. Rugs

“Your floor is another part of your home where heat can be lost and make your home feel cold,” he continued. “On cold days you may notice that your floor is not pleasant to walk on because your feet are freezing.

“Add rugs to areas that don’t already have carpet. This will provide a layer of insulation between your bare floor and the room above.”

3. Check your insulation

Check your pipes, attic space, crawl spaces and under floorboards.

“Loose insulation is great for this, and it is a more affordable form of insulation, with a large bag being picked up for around £30,” explains Joshua.

4. Keep your interior doors closed

“Household members often congregate in one room in the evening, which is usually the kitchen or living room,” says Joshua.

“This means you only need to heat a small part of your home and closing the doors keeps the heat in and the cold out.”

5. Block drafts

Don’t forget to check cat flaps, chimneys and mailboxes as these can let in cold air if they are not properly secured.

According to the experts, using an electric blanket instead of turning up the heat can save you money on your bill.

Uswitch energy expert Sarah Broomfield said: “Using an electric blanket to heat the bed can mean you can turn down the temperature on your thermostat as your bedroom doesn’t need to be so warm.

“If you turn the thermostat down just 1°C you could save as much as £80 a year.”
