Inside the small luxury hotel in Cape Town at the foot of Table Mountain with HUGE views – so dramatic they are worthy of an Oscar
Such dramatic views are worthy of an Oscar.
Atzaro Cape Town, a small luxury hotel at the foot of Table Mountain, offers vast, unparalleled views of the South African city.
On the left is Devil’s Peak, on the right is Lion’s Head and straight ahead is the City Bowl.
And there’s no chance you’ll miss anything.
With extensive viewing terraces and glass walls, the city’s breathtaking scenery is always in sight.

Jess describes the views in Atzaro Cape Town as so dramatic they are ‘Oscar worthy’
‘With extensive viewing terraces and walls of glass, the city’s breathtaking scenery is always in view,’ notes Jess. Above you see Lion’s Head, part of Table Mountain National Park
The sleek four-storey building contains seven opulent suites, each with a unique view of the city.
My Superior Suite, a bright and spacious retreat called ‘Marula’, features a king-size bed, freestanding bath, shower, private bathroom and private living room.
The floor-to-ceiling windows provide an abundance of natural light and lead to a leafy terrace with sunbeds.
In Atzaro Cape Town, Jess notes that ‘there is plenty of space to relax’, and that with the roaring fires ‘there is a risk of falling asleep’
Upstairs is the large open communal area, surrounded by an ‘extensive terrace’
The hotel features mid-century interior design, including asymmetrical wooden coffee tables and abstract wooden sculptures, Jess notes.
The comfortable furniture and dim wicker lampshade could have tempted me to spend all day in the room.
But beyond that there is even more to admire, not least the large open communal area surrounded by an expansive terrace.
The mid-century style interior, designed by co-owner Phillip Gonda, features asymmetrical wooden coffee tables, a large dining table and abstract wooden sculptures sourced from Bali.
There is plenty of space to relax, from comfortable cream sofas to retro chairs. And with two fires burning, there is a risk that you will fall asleep.
The hotel bills itself as the ‘perfect pre- or post-safari stay’ and has a nature theme throughout.
Nature photographs by South Africa-based artist Caroline Gibello hang on the walls, a zebra rug hangs proudly in the dining room, and small hippo sculptures are scattered around the entrance.

Outside, there is a large wooden terrace where guests can immerse themselves in a sunken pool or lounge on sunbeds.
Guests also have access to a gym and a wellness suite with a yoga room, sauna and private massage room.
Here too, you won’t have to lift a finger thanks to the attentive staff and resident manager Xander Labuschagne, who creates a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Breakfast is included at the hotel, while the rest of the dining options are extra and can be tailor-made for each guest.
During my stay, I enjoyed a four-course meal prepared by private chef Nike Roessler, who regularly cooks for hotel guests and tries everything from crab to avocado salad.
Guests can also request a barbecue or, even if it’s difficult to escape the hotel’s sanctuaries, try out the Mother City’s numerous dining options, which are set amid a host of memorable sights.

The vibrant Bo-Kaap district, known for its cobbled streets and colorful houses, is just a short drive away, as is the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens.
Atzaro Cape Town can also organize tours to boost the sightseeing. During my trip, I took a tour of the peninsula, courtesy of Ligia De Coito of wine tourism company Wine Desk, stopping everywhere from penguin-inhabited Boulder’s Beach and Cape Point to the breathtaking mountain Chapman’s Peak.
If your neck starts to ache as you twist from side to side to take in the epic views, Atzaro Cape Town offers the perfect place to rest.
