  • The man was reported missing last Thursday and was last seen on Tuesday
  • He is the seventh tourist to go missing in Greece the past weeks

A missing American tourist has been found dead on the rocky beach of the small Greek island of Mathraki, according to local media.

The man’s body was found on Sunday by another tourist on a remote beach on the island west of Corfu.

The victim was reported missing Thursday by his host, a Greek-American friend.

He was reportedly last seen on Tuesday at a local cafe in the company of two women who have since left the small island.

Details about the man, including a name and hometown, were not immediately available.

Mathraki is a small island with only 100 inhabitants. The 1.2 square kilometer island is heavily forested.

Last Friday, news broke of an unknown man going missing in Mathraki. The man was reportedly last seen on Tuesday staying with his Greek-American friend.

The friend reported the man missing on Thursday after returning home to find the door to the house open, the lights on and the air conditioning on. But the man had disappeared along with his ID and travel documents.

It has not yet been confirmed whether it is the same person as the one whose body was found on Sunday.

The confirmed dead American tourist is the latest in a series of disappearances of tourists from Greek islands.

Several are still missing, but two others were found dead after taking a walk in the sweltering heat.

A 74-year-old Dutch tourist was found yesterday by a fire brigade drone lying face down in a ravine about 300 meters from where he was last seen a week ago.

Witnesses say he struggled a bit as he walked under the scorching sun.

Also last week, Dr. Michael Mosley, the beloved British TV presenter and MailOnline.com columnist, found dead on the island of Symi after collapsing while out for a walk.

His wife said he took the wrong route and collapsed just before reaching a marina, in a place where his body could not be easily seen.

Last Friday, two French tourists were also reported missing on Sikinos, a somewhat remote Cyclades island in the Aegean Sea where fewer than 400 people live.

The women, one in her 60s, the other in her 70s, left their respective hotels to meet up – and have not been seen since.

The search is also underway in the Cyclades, on the island of Amorgos, for a 59-year-old American tourist, who has been missing since last Tuesday.

The man, retired Los Angeles County Hermosa Beach Deputy Sheriff Albert Calibet, went on a solo hike in very warm conditions.
