In a wild moment, police punch and knee the man as they take him down during a brutal arrest in Broadmeadows, Melbourne
Wild footage captured police beating and kneeing a man after he allegedly punched an officer in the face during a dramatic arrest.
Victoria Police allege the 37-year-old Gladstone Park man had been on a scathing rampage through Melbourne before they caught up with him in Broadmeadows, in the city’s north, on Tuesday.
During the arrest, a female officer is seen punching the shirtless man repeatedly, while another kneels on his neck in an attempt to subdue him.
Police have defended the officers’ actions, saying the man allegedly punched an officer in the face and violently resisted arrest before they were forced to use capsicum spray on him.
The officer was not seriously injured in the outburst and was treated at the scene.
The man has since been suspected of assault.
It is alleged that the man had been on a rampage in a nearby suburb at around 10am, hitting several poker machines at a licensed location on Airport West.
Police allege he then threw a brick at the screen of an Anther gaming machine at a venue on Mickleham Road, in Gladstone Park, before fleeing on foot.

He then ran down the road to Broadmeadows Square where he was arrested.
The man was due to appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
