In a statement, Bopp said: “The visit of German Chancellor to India scheduled in the month of October will provide an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between two countries. This will also provide an opportunity to discuss the successes achieved since the MoU was signed two years ago.”
Earlier on Tuesday, the German Ambassador to India said, Philip Ackermann that the second half of October would be a kind of ‘German Mohotsav’ when Scholz would visit India for the Intergovernmental Consultations (IGC).
Scholz is expected to arrive in New Delhi with a large delegation of about seven to eight ministers, the envoy said.
Speaking to ANI, Ackermann said: “Basically what we are going to have is a kind of German Mohotsav. I would say at the end of October the intergovernmental consultationwhere the Chancellor and seven to eight ministers will travel to Delhi. At the same time we have the Asia-Pacific conference of German business. And there will be a lot of very senior German CEOs coming to Delhi to discuss German business in India and Asia.”
“So basically the last second half of October will be very German. And I am very happy to host so many different German elements. India will be a fantastic host, and as usual we are looking forward to it,” he added. .
Highlighting the defense cooperation between India and Germany, the envoy said, “We have significantly improved our presence here when it comes to military-strategic cooperation in India.”
Notably, Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had a telephonic conversation with his German counterpart Boris Pistorius on Tuesday during which they discussed ongoing defense cooperation activities, including exercises in the air and maritime domains.
The two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen defense-industry cooperation and enhance supply chain resilience.
The German envoy said: “So the ministers spoke today to prepare their bilateral meeting at the end of October, in the context of these intergovernmental consultations. The Defense Minister of Germany will meet Raksha Mantri here in Delhi, and they will I think here in India we have seen an increase in sales of German defense production and that is actually in line with the German government’s policy of to close for safety. “
Scholz visited India in February 2023 and led a high-level business delegation comprising CEOs of major German companies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz jointly addressed a Business Round Table comprising top industry leaders from both sides.
During the visit, a joint document titled “India-Germany Vision to Enhance Cooperation in Innovation and Technology” was released by both sides. Scholz was also in New Delhi for the G20 summit hosted by India in September last year.
In 2022, Prime Minister Modi visited Berlin as part of the 6th Indo-German Intergovernmental Consultation (IGC). During their talks, the two heads of government recognized the importance of digital transformation as a key driver for technological, economic and social change.
Moreover, Modi and Scholz had signed a Joint Memorandum of Understanding (JDI), establishing a partnership for green and sustainable development.
Notably, India was also one of the first countries to establish diplomatic ties with Germany after World War II. The two nations celebrated the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2021.
