An assistant head teacher who was caught with more than 11,500 images for child abuse was fired – after he was spared the prison on the 'horrible' sexual offenses.

Gareth Mellor, 45, admitted two accusations of making indecent images of children and one indictment to possess them and received a two -year prison sentence at Leeds Crown Court in December 2023.

He was arrested in his house in Staffordshire in May 2021 after he paid for indecent images of minors through a coded cloud storage service.

Mellor had worked as a teacher at the Kettthorpe High School in Wakefield, none of his insulting, who happened between January 2014 and May 2021, was, according to his students, related to his students, according to the National Crime Agency.

He was the designated lead for security at the school and the pastoral lead for 320 students.

The 45-year-old is now forbidden to teach an indefinite period after a panel of the Education Regulation Agency (TRA) has established that a prohibition order was proportional because of the seriousness, duration and volume of his crimes.

Thousands of photos that were not taken by Mellor have been found on his devices, with the majority of teenage girls.

About 520 photos and videos were category A material, 619 category B and 10,450 Category CAccording to the decision of the panel.

When Mellor paid a provider that is known to deliver indecent material, the National Crime Agency traced the e -mail address that was used for the transaction back to the teacher and arrested him.

At the time, Danielle Pownall, NCA Operations Manager, said: 'Gareth Mellor worked with children almost every day and was entrusted to protect them. This research showed that he deeply betray this trust by gathering a huge collection of material that shows the horrible abuse of children. '

Mellor admitted that he had tried to remove the content of his cell phone, but according to the decision of the TRA panel, the police could still repair a considerable amount of indecent material.

In December 2023, Mellor was sentenced to two years and 200 hours of unpaid work, a program activity and a rehabilitation activity.

He also became a topic of sexual claims for damages for a period of 10 years and his name was added to the register of sex offenders.

'Although Mr. Mellor's behavior took place outside the school environment, the panel noted that the behavior involved in committing the violation could have had an impact on the safety of pupils and/or members of the public And gave the seriousness of the violations, “the TRA decision has read.

“The panel also noted that during the hearing Mr. Mellor was looking for students at the school on social media platforms, although the violations had not involved students.”

The panel did not receive a testimony or reflection from Mellor or “something that confirmed that he had completed the rehabilitation requirements of his sentence.”

“Mellor is forbidden to teach an indefinite period of time and cannot teach at a school, sixth form college, relevant youth accommodation or children's home in England,” said decision -maker Sarah Buxcey on behalf of the State Secretary.

“Moreover, given the seriousness of the accusations that have been proven against him, I decided that Mr. Mellor will not have the right to recover from his eligible to teach.”
