But the downside is that we can sometimes become discouraged about what our own home looks like.

And not everyone has the time or money to freshen up rooms and change the decor.

Luckily, one interior designer is ready to tell you the simple tricks you can do to transform your home without spending a lot of money.

Lucy Steele, paint and interior design expert Valspar painttold The Scottish Sun how you can transform your decor in any room on a budget.

Kitchen

Everyone knows that the kitchen is the heart of the home, so it’s no surprise that we all want it to look its best.

But that doesn’t mean you have to buy a whole new kitchen to keep up with current trends.

According to Lucy, all you need is a lick of paint to make it feel like a new space.

She said: “You don’t have to splash out on a new kitchen, but give the kitchen cupboards a ‘glow up’ with a lick of paint.

“White, like White Hot, is probably the most versatile color choice when it comes to kitchen cabinets because it offers the most versatile styling options for all types of kitchens.

“Crisp, white kitchen cabinets have the ability to brighten up any room, whether it is ultra-modern or classic and traditional.”

Five things that make your house look cheap

Living room

Although the kitchen is the heart of the home, we spend most of our time in our home in the living room.

It is often the central room of the place and if we start with the walls we can often quickly get tired of it.

And if you start to get that feeling, Lucy recommends adding a feature wall to brighten up the space.

She explains: “If you’re tired of your living room, why not add a feature wall to the space?

“Specialty walls have the ability to bring life and personality to any space, and to accentuate the soft furnishings in the room.

“If you’re creating a feature wall, choose the wall that naturally draws attention, for example the wall that slopes the least, and provide a subtle contrast, such as a slightly darker or more vibrant shade to your existing color scheme.”

Bedroom

Our bedrooms are where we come to relax, daydream and unwind after a long day.

So if you feel like a dated look is starting to stress you out, the experts recommend picking up a paintbrush.

Lucy says: “It may sound simple, but a simple lick of paint on tired-looking walls can help to give any room in the house a new look, especially the bedroom.

“Whether you want to keep the same color or choose a different color scheme, it is important that the color in a bedroom creates a serene and soothing atmosphere, perfect for a good night’s sleep!”

Bathroom

Installing a brand new bathroom can be very expensive, so if you want to freshen up the room, try adding some accessories first to save yourself a small fortune.

Lucy suggests: “A new bathroom can certainly come at a high price, but there are plenty of other things you can do to update a bathroom space without it costing too much.

“The key is to incorporate inexpensive accessories into the space, such as towels in different colors, candles, novelty soap holders and even artwork.

“Buying new taps, handles and lamps does not have to be too expensive.

“And it can really have a very big impact on the overall look and feel of the space.”
