The Government of Karnataka has decided to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged suspects Covid scams which took place during the previous one BJP government‘s tenure, according to HK Patil, the Minister of State for Law and Parliamentary Affairs. The decision was announced on Thursday after a cabinet meeting.
Patil informed reporters that the committee was headed by retired justice John Michael D’Cunhahas submitted an interim report on the Covid scam, recommending recovery of Rs 500 crores.
“We have taken decisions on fifteen issues, the most important of which is that Mr. Cunha, whose committee has been appointed to investigate irregularities in the civilian population, has submitted his first interim report and in the report he has proposed to recover Rs 500 crores to progress,” the minister said. .

After examining the interim report, the government has decided to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and a Cabinet subcommittee. The purpose of these entities is to monitor and monitor the actions that will be taken on the findings and suggestions outlined in the report, Patil said. He said, “The government, after considering the interim report, has decided to form a SIT and Cabinet sub-committee to monitor the action that would be taken.”
Last month the Karnataka Cabinet had announced the decision to file a report on the alleged irregularities in the management of Rs 7,000-crore Covid-19 funds to a committee headed by the Chief Secretary to analyze the findings of the report and suggest follow-up actions. Patil had said at the time that the report, filed by retired judge John Michael Cunha, had made serious observations that “hundreds of crores” were misappropriated in controlling the Covid-19 pandemic.
