Prince Harry will spend Valentine's Day apart from his wife Meghan Markle after she flew home early from the Invictus games in Canada.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had arrived in Vancouver on Friday before they went to Whistler to attend a series of events related to the competition.
But Meghan has now only returned to the £ 12 million house of the couple in Montecito, California, to see their children Prince Archie, Five and Princess Lilibet, three.
In the meantime, Harry will stay in Canada to view the rest of the tournament for injured service personnel and veterans, ending with Sunday's closing ceremony.
Although this means that the couple will be separated on Valentine's Day this Friday, Assistants said that Meghan was always planning to leave and Harry let the remaining events attend solo.
The plans were not given in advance for safety reasons and a source close to the couple said: 'This was always planned. Meghan goes home to be with her children.
'Meghan left the competitions in Dusseldorf early after five days to go home. This is the Prince Harry event and she is there to support him, but this was planned. '
It comes after Meghan said that during a wheelchair basketball game in Vancouver it told fans on Sunday that she missed her children.

More than 500 competitors from 23 countries participate in the seventh edition of the games in Vancouver.
Harry, a former captain of the British army, launched the Invictus games in 2014 as an international sports tournament for injured service personnel and veterans.
The competitions were held in London in 2014, in 2016 in Orlando, Toronto in 2017, Sydney in 2018, The Hague in 2022 and Dusseldorf in 2023.
It comes when Harry and Meghan have carried out more events in recent months, in the midst of reports of a 'professional divorce' to pursue more of their own personal business and charity passes.
Last December Harry used a New York Media Summit to challenge persistent online rumors that his marriage to Meghan is on the rocks.

With the Duchess 2,500 miles away during a gala event in Los Angeles with friend Tyler Perry, Harry was asked about the fixation of the audience on their relationship.
But the Duke said to the dealbook -top: 'Apparently we bought or moved a house 10 or 12 times. Apparently we are perhaps also 10, 12 times divorced.
“So it's just,” what? 'It's hard to keep track of, but that's why you just ignore it a bit. The people I regret most are the trolls.
“Their hope is just built and built, and it's so of:” Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, “and then it doesn't happen. So I feel sorry for them. Really, I do. '
