His sporting bravery helped him to the world's number one tennis player and a large number of titles, including two Wimbledon trophies.
But Sir Andy Murray admitted that he had to be saved by snowmobile from a mountain during a recent first ski holiday abroad.
The double Olympic gold medal winner said he should get help to get the ski lift and feared that he feared that he would go from a cliff because he doesn't know how to stop.
Murray said: 'The first two days were shocking. I could not get rid of the ski lifts.
'My wife refused to go on the ski lifts with me because it is just embarrassing, it is not. I just couldn't get out, so I had to continue with strangers who had to lift me.
“The first day I came up the mountain.
'At the end of the day we were on a slope of a beginners. The ski lift to take you back to the top was closer and there was another one further on the hill and I and my brother-in-law were 'let's go a little further and we will just lift the other ski'.
“So we went down the mountain a bit. And I can't ski – I don't know how to stop at this stage.

'We had literally been to a beginner -green slope and as soon as you were that little bit, it continued with blues and red.
'We probably went 400, 500 meters the slope, came to where the ski lift was and the ski lift was closed. The man who operated said that the only way to go down now was that you had to go up the mountain.
“I had something like” Ok, I can't ski. ” He was something like 'you should have risen when you were told that it was closed'.
“We asked him how far it was and he said,” It's about 3 km to the bottom. ” It is late on the day, it is also icy, it is more difficult.
“I had no idea how to stop, so in principle about 500 meters had gone, narrow slope, and I have something like 'if I try to turn, I will leave the side here'.
“So I'm actually going straight. I passed my brother and I shout: “I'm in trouble here, I don't know how to stop.”

'I picked up the skis, I now walk and had to be saved on one of those ski boxes.
'The rescue team understands because it is usually when drunken British people at the end of the day the mountain is up. That is not really their task – they are there to help people who are injured instead of an idiot who thought they can get through the slope late in the day.
“That was a bit embarrassing.”
But he added to the Podcast of Sporting Misadventures: “By the end I went into it considerably and I enjoyed it and we'll go again in April.”
