I have better skin than my friends and family – my secret is a little depressing
Genetics doesn’t have to mean a life sentence when it comes to your skin, according to one person who’s perfected his or her self-care routine.
They said their skin color was better than that of friends and family, despite being a little gloomy.
A Redditor gave an overview of their regime in a comment on the social media platform.
They shared what really benefited their skin, which may come as a surprise to some: buying fewer skin care products.
“Using fewer products, starting tretinoin, changing my pillowcases twice a week, and avoiding the sun are surprisingly the things that improved my skin,” the researchers said.
They also gave some advice that may seem a little bleak to some.
“I work in an office with no windows and although it is depressing, I notice that my skin looks a lot better compared to my friends and family,” they said.
“I still have wrinkles, but my skin looks healthier overall and there are no more dark spots.
“Using fewer products and starting tretinoin has also helped my skin.
“I have rosacea and quite sensitive skin. I have now found a routine that works very well for me.”

THE EXACT ROUTINE
The Redditor added his specific regimen, tailored to an optimal complexion.
They cleanse their faces with La Roche-Posay’s Cicaplast Lavant B5 Purifying Soothing Foaming Gel, which retails for $32 at Walmart.
Then they add some hydration with La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+ Ultra-Repairing Soothing Balm, $24.98.
For an active ingredient that studies show supports the treatment of fine lines, the Redditor turns to Tretinoin.
And if they are going to be in the sun, they will definitely apply SPF.
REDDITORS RESPOND
Several Reddit users responded positively to the commenter’s simplified skincare routine that set him apart from his friends and family.
“This is so helpful as I have rosacea and am trying to figure out what brands to use now that I am taking it more seriously and caring more about my skincare after a period of not having a routine,” one person wrote.
Redditors have reason to be happy with the simple yet effective skin care routine.
According to The Cleveland Clinic, vitamin B5, an ingredient found in La Roche-Posay products, works wonders for hair and skin.
Dermatologist Taylor Bullock explains the importance of pantothenic acid, which is converted into vitamin B5 in the body.
“Pantothenol is a provitamin. When used topically, such as in hair care or skin care products, it is converted in your body to vitamin B5, also known as pantothenic acid,” Dr. Bullock told The Cleveland Clinic.
“Pantothenol is a common ingredient in skin care and hair products that I recommend, especially for those prone to dehydration.”
