Dr. Dre’s ex-marriage counselor gets a restraining order against rapper after shocking claims in lawsuit
Dr. Dre’s ex-marriage counselor has obtained a restraining order against him after filing a $10 million lawsuit accusing the rap mogul of threatening him.
The plaintiff is Dr. Charles Sophy, a psychiatrist who said he counseled the 59-year-old Compton, California, resident and his ex-wife Nicole Young, 54, during their marriage and as a mediator after their divorce.
Sophy said in the lawsuits that he was aware of Dr.’s threats. Dre and that he has put on a bulletproof vest as a precaution.
Now he has taken the extra step of filing for a temporary restraining order against Dr. Dre, and a judge approved the request.
Sophy asked the court to allow Dr. Ban Dre from coming within 300 feet of him, his 22-year-old son and his dogs Maxx and Cash, in court documents cited by TMZ.

In filing the restraining order, Sophy also requested that the rapper be prohibited from contacting him via email, text message or phone, pointing out that Dr. Dre has been to his house and knows where he lives.
On Friday, the day news of the restraining order broke, Sophy’s lawyer also responded to Dr. Dre.
In a legal letter sent in February 2023, Dr. Dre’s attorney Howard King accused Sophy of malpractice by poisoning one of the rapper’s sons against him to favor Nicole in the divorce proceedings.
Dr. Dre has three sons: Truice, 27, whom he shares with Nicole, as well as Curtis, 42, and Marcel, 33, from previous relationships.
King’s legal letter from February 2023 alleges that Sophy Dr. Dre has “slandered” and “made a malicious attempt to convince his son to turn against him.”
Sophy’s attorney Christopher Frost responded to the claims on Friday, issuing a statement that deflected attention to the allegations against Dr. Dre.
“All mental health professionals work with individuals and families at the most vulnerable and emotionally challenging times of their lives,” Frost shared TMZ.
“However, threatening and harassing someone as a means of expressing their emotions is unacceptable behavior that the world as a whole cannot tolerate,” he added.
“Unfortunately, Mr. Young’s recent behavior since filing the complaint only perpetuates his chosen consistent pattern of behavior. This dispute is about his consistent pattern of negative and abusive behavior and nothing else.”
In his first trial, Sophy told the court that Dr. Dre began flooding him with “abusive and threatening text messages” in February 2023 — a year and two months after the bitter divorce was finalized in December 2021, according to TMZ.
Sophy said in legal documents that the Beats Electronics founder falsely accused him of orchestrating a smear campaign against him during the split with Young, the outlet reported.
Sophy told the court that Dr. Dre falsely claimed that Sophy had caused a third party to make inflammatory comments about him in the media.
Sophy said in legal documents that Dr. Dre sent texts promising he would ‘make it’ [Sophy] pay for that’, calling him a ‘piece of s***’ and a ‘b****’ amid the text rants.
The Forgot About Dre artist, whose full name is Andre Young, at one point had his associates pose as FBI agents to contact him in the gated community where he lives, Sophy alleged in the lawsuit, according to TMZ .
Sophy told the court in the aftermath of the incident — in which he said the employees posing as federal officials threatened to cause him bodily harm — that he had spent extra money securing his home.
Sophy said that as a result of the incident, he has been wearing body armor and hats whenever he leaves his home, the outlet reported.

Sophy also asked the court to issue a restraining order against Dr. Dre at least 100 yards away.
‘Dr. Sophy only filed his charges after failing to pressure Mr. Young to stop efforts to arrest Dr. Sophy punished for dereliction of duty and incredible incompetence,” Dr. Dre’s lawyer Howard King told TMZ.
King said that Dr. Dre filed a confidential complaint with the Osteopathic Medical Board of California in 2023 about his experience with Sophy.
King said that Dr.’s complaint Dre was done with the intention that officials would revoke Sophy’s medical license “to provide mental health care to indigent patients” after the events that occurred during the divorce.
“In gross violation of all applicable standards of care, Dr. Sophy embroiled himself in a controversial divorce, while simultaneously ‘treating’ not only Mr. and Mrs. Young, but their children as well,” King told TMZ.

He continued: “He was fired when it became known that he encouraged one of their children to take sides against Mr. Young, and even encouraged his son to go to the press with false accusations to force a financial settlement that he recommended. ‘
King said Sophy has “consistently rejected” officials’ efforts to investigate the above allegations, describing its efforts in filing the lawsuit as “desperate.”
