Siddique was getting into his vehicle when three assailants arrived on foot and fired several bullets at him. Siddique, who suffered bullet injuries on his chest, was declared dead on arrival, sources said at Lilavati Hospital where he was rushed to TOI. No one other than Baba Siddique was injured, police confirmed. Police are checking CCTV footage to determine the sequence of events.
Two of the three attackers were arrested. The third is on the run, police said. Siddique was granted Y-category protection 15 days ago after receiving threats and was provided with a personal security officer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Police are investigating whether the murder has anything to do with a dispute between the SRA (Slum Rehabilitation Authority). They are also investigating whether the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was behind the murder as Siddique was close to actor Salman Khan, who had threatened the gangster.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde told the media, “The shooting incident of Baba Siddique is very unfortunate. One attacker is from Uttar Pradesh and another is from Haryana. The CP told me that. The police are chasing the third suspect. I have told the police to ensure that no one takes law and order into their hands. Things like a gang war can’t lift its head. I told the police to take strict action. Mumbai Police will take swift action and arrest the third accused. All three will be tried in a fast-track court.”
In February this year, Baba Siddique ended his 48-year association with the Congress and joined the Ajit Pawar-led NCP.
Siddique was an MLA for three consecutive terms in 1999, 2004 and 2009, and had also previously served as Minister of Food and Civil Supplies, Labor and FDA (2004-2008), and previously served as a municipal corporator for two consecutive terms (1992-2008). 1997).
He also served as chairman and senior vice-president of the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee and the Parliamentary Board of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee.
Deputy Prime Minister Ajit Pawar posted on X that he was shocked to hear about Siddique’s death and that he had lost a close colleague and a friend.
NCP (SP) supremo Sharad Pawar said the situation is worrying.
“If the ruling side and the Home Minister start running the government with this softness, it is an alarming sign. There is no need even for an inquiry, but the ruling side should take responsibility and vacate the post,” he said.
