Former Port Adelaide captain Dom Cassisi believes that pronounced commentator and former teammate Kane Cornes is a hypocritical in view of his own response to criticism during his match days.

Cassisi and Cornes together won a premiership together in 2004 with the strength – but the decorated midfielder feels the Channel seven Identity is often too destructive when it comes to modern stars.

“Kane knowing, I was prepared in the same year as he, I was with him every day and we boys understand that if someone said something about the game of Kane, he took it worse than anyone,” said Cassisi on Channel 7s Two team city Show.

“He would literally have trouble coming to the club, he wouldn’t talk to anyone. He would be flat.

“So we (ex-Port Adelaide teammates) look a little and go, what you do with this child … You couldn’t really take it yourself if someone criticized you.”

Cassisi referred to Cornes recently choosing Noord -Melbourne players Harry Sheezel and JY Simpkin.

Cornes’ stabbing criticism resulted in struggling Kangaroos who forbid him to keep an interview pre-game With coach Alastair Clarkson prior to the club’s collision with Essendon on 1 May, the attacks were ‘personal and revengeful’.

The club will do that too refuse to do other media options with regard to cornes, who also works for Sen and has a large presence on social media.

Cassisi was not ready because he had some advice for Sheezel and Simpkin: take Cornes’ criticism on the chin.

“For us who are close to him, we laughed at it a bit because it is like ‘you struggle with it and you do it to this child’, which does not really stack,” he added.

“Because Kane struggled so much with it and he publicly spoke about his fear … You ask how you (then) can inflict that to other people … but that is the path he has taken.

“And so for all the players there are … Might take it with a pinch of salt.”

Cornes confirmed has no plans to stimulate and protect his views, his task as a media expert.

“I was struck in my career (by criticism) and I openly talked about that,” he said.

‘You try to keep the Footy -related, I have always had strong opinions and I will not deteriorate there.

“These players are (also) well rewarded …. and I think the (kangaroos) supporters demand success and if you haven’t had it for a long time, difficult questions must be asked.”
