I’m tired of ‘shrill’ kids shouting in my cul-de-sac – they should know better

A WOMAN shared her frustration at children screaming as they played near her home.

She also explained why the ‘shrill’ sound can make parents less alert to dangers.

In one after on Mumsnet, an unnamed user described feeling “tired of children running and screaming.”

The homeowner revealed that the children who play near her home are old enough to know better.

“These children are approximately eight to thirteen years old,” the woman wrote in her post.

She explained that the children, some of whom are siblings, are always “running in the middle of the cul-de-sac.”

The woman pointed out that children at this age do not need to scream all the time.

“Some toddlers go through a phase where they discover their voice and decide to make high-pitched squeaks,” she said.

“This is the time for their parents to say, ‘Don’t do this,’ nip it in the bud as they say.”

She also added that constant screaming can make it difficult to determine when something is actually wrong.

“It’s Peter and the Wolf with the screaming,” the poster wrote in the comments section.

“Normally all you hear when someone is attacked is screaming.”

I lost myself when I had children and was deeply deceived about my parenting

Mumsnet users were divided on the question, with some pointing out that children playing outside is better than being glued to screens.

“Isn’t it nice that they play together outside instead of sitting in front of the TV?” one reader asked.

“Better than sitting on screens indoors,” another commenter agreed.

“Children playing outside in the fresh air, call the police now or at least social services,” a third person joked.

On the other hand, some people agreed with the poster’s frustrated opinion.

HEALTH RISKS OF SCREEN TIME

THE screens of our phones, TVs and computers improve our lives in many ways, but there can be too much of a good thing. Science now shows that Britain’s technology obsession is damaging our health.

Most of the damage comes from screen time being sedentary, meaning we barely move our bodies when we watch or scroll.

Sitting still for too long ultimately leads to weight gain and obesity, causing millions of Brits to develop health problems including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer and dementia.

Here are six studies that show screen time can harm our health at any age:

“If we shouted we were told to go back inside but now it seems some parents let their children do this and that’s fine no matter how much it bothers the neighbours,” one Mumsnet user wrote.

“I was going crazy, thank God the kids two doors down are grown up now!”

“Playing loudly is fine. No shouting. Parents should tell them how to behave,” someone else agreed.

“My parents explained to us that yelling was only for serious emergencies, like being attacked/kidnapped or at risk of serious injury or death,” said one reader.

“There’s no need to shout to have fun.”
