I’m a dry cleaner and my £6 Amazon tool makes fleeces and jumpers soft again
A PROFESSIONAL dry cleaner revealed how to make any sweater or fleece feel soft again.
The laundry expert demonstrated the quick trick, which also works for cuddly toys.
In its viral videoZachariah Pozniak (@jeeves_ny), who describes himself as “New York’s best dry cleaner,” walked his followers through the process.
He explained that the hack works on a variety of materials, including fleece and sherpa.
Before he started, he showed his audience the before and after results of a jacket he had recently worked on.
As a first step, Zachary advised his followers to pick up a defrost comb to “break up the party.”

You can buy a defrost comb and lint shaver from Amazon for £6.16.
He also recommended having a lint brush or roller ready for the task.
As Zachary worked to break apart the collected material, which he likened to “little mountains,” he explained why they form.
“Basically, when used, the fleece fibers start hanging around and talking and forming little clumps,” he said.
Combing material helps separate these groups, making the fabric feel softer.
However, the dry cleaner warned its audience against making an easy mistake that could further damage their clothes.
“Be careful because depilation combs remove fibers from your garment, so be careful,” he said.
Finally, Zachary showed his followers how “a little combing makes a big difference” as he held up the sweater.
TikTok users shared their thoughts on the advice in the comments section.
“Drying is an art and it’s a blessing when you find a really good one. I’ve learned so much from your page. Thanks for sharing,” one viewer wrote.
“Also, don’t use fabric softener or sheets on the sherpas as they are waxy and contribute to pilling,” another follower suggests.
Even more winter washing tips
Tackling winter laundry can be a challenge, but these helpful tips can help you stay on top of it:
- Use a dehumidifier: Place a dehumidifier in your drying room to speed up the drying process and prevent moisture.
- Spin cycle boost: Run an extra spin cycle on your washing machine to remove excess water from clothes, which will reduce drying time.
- Indoor drying rack: Invest in a good quality indoor drying rack and place it near a radiator or in a well-ventilated area.
- Tumble dryer balls: Add dryer balls to your dryer to help clothes dry faster and reduce static cling.
- Space saving hangers: Use space-saving hangers or a retractable clothesline to maximize indoor drying space.
- Microfiber towels: Place microfiber cloths over your drying rack to absorb extra moisture from hanging clothes.
- Partly dry outside: Hang the clothes outside on dry days before bringing them inside to dry.
These hacks can help you keep your laundry routine efficient and your clothes fresh, even during the colder months.
“Have you tried a cat brush? My daughter uses that on her Sherpa blanket and it looks soooo new,” said a third person.
“I’ve seen people use them for fluffy stuffed animals,” said another viewer.
“I love the look used, it’s very loved,” said one TikTok user.
“I have a de-piller and it works great. Never thought I would use it on fleece,” wrote another follower.
“I’ve tried this, but it doesn’t seem to work with synthetic Sherpa material,” one commenter warned.
