JD Vance made a stunning departure from Donald Trump and Minister of Defense Pete Hegseeth by threatening military action against Russia if Vladimir Putin does not agree with a peace agreement with Ukraine.
Vance said the Wall Street Journal that 'everything is on the table' attempted to guarantee the long -term independence of KYIV while Trump is preparing to meet his Russian counterpart and iron a deal.
“There are economic aids for leverage, there are of course military tools for leverage” that the US can use against Putin, “Vance told the newspaper.
Vance teased the prospect of a peace plan and insisted that the president would not stop when it came to negotiating with Putin.
“The president does not go into the blinking here. He is going to say, “Everything is on the table, let's close a deal,” said Vance.
“I think there is a deal that will come from this that many people will shock.”
Trump said earlier on Thursday that he 'trusts' Vladimir Putin when the Russian leader says he wants peace in Ukraine.
The comments came a day after Trump and Putin spoke for 90 minutes by telephone, and European allies accused him of giving away concessions prior to conversations to end the war.
In the meantime, Minister of Defense Hegseeth said in Brussels on Thursday that the introduction of American troops was not an option and seemed willing to admit land in Ukraine.

Trump ordered American officials to start terminating the almost three years of conflict after a conversation with Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
The president said: “I believe President Putin spoke with him yesterday. I know him very well. I think he wants peace. I think he would tell me if he didn't.
“I trust him on this subject. I think he would like to see something happening. '
Trump also said that he would like to have Russia back in the G7 – the group of economic rulers from which it was cast after canceling the Crimea from Ukraine.
“I would like to have them back. I think it was a mistake to throw them away, “he said. 'Look, it is not a matter of liking Russia or not loving Russia. It was the G8.
“I said,” What am you doing? You – all you're talking about is Russia and they should be sitting at the table. ” I think Putin would like to be back. '
The phone calls came shortly after Hegseeth said the military allies of Ukraine that a return to the borders of the country before 2014 – before Russia had annexed Crimea – was unrealistic and that the US does not see NATO membership for KYIV as part of a solution.
Trump made a backup of that position when he was asked.

“I thought his comments were good yesterday and probably good today,” Trump said about his defense leader. “They may be a bit softer, but I thought his comments, I thought his comments were pretty accurate yesterday.”
“I see no way in which a country in the position of Russia could allow them, only in their position, enable them to join NATO,” Trump said.
Dailymail.com has contacted the White House for comments.
With a potential Trump-Putin meeting in Saudi Arabia at an unknown time, Trump also said that he wants conversations about cutbacks on military editions with Russia and China.
Ukrainians were afraid on Thursday that Trump prepared to sell their country after his phone call Putin.
However, Trump said on Thursday that Ukraine would be involved in peace talks with Russia. He told reporters in the White House that Ukraine would have a place at the table during peace negotiations with Russia about ending the war.
Kyiv said it would be early to speak with Moscow at a security conference on Friday.
In the meantime, European diplomats have spoken their anger about Trump's proposed peace talks with Russia about the fate of Ukraine.

In a bone address for reporters at NATO interviews in Brussels, EU Top Diplomat Kaja Kallas insisted that no deal could work behind our back, because she accused Washington of 'appeasement' opposite Russia.
“We don't have to take anything off the table before the negotiations even started because it plays at the Russian court and it's what they want,” she said.
“Every fast solution is a dirty deal,” she said. “It just won't work.”
The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zensky said that it was 'not very pleasant' that Trump had called Putin before he spoke with him, and added that the American president had said he wanted to talk to both leaders.
The Ukrainian leader – who will meet Vice President JD Vance in Munich on Friday in the US – said he wanted to hammer a 'plan to stop Putin' with the United States before conversations are made.
During the Russian war against Ukraine since 2022 it is a mantra for Western powers that no decisions should be made about the future of Ukraine without Kiev.
