“When did I threaten him?” HD Kumaraswamy reacts after Karnataka police book him for ‘menacing cop’ – Times of India

BENGALURU: Three weeks after ADGP and Lokayukta Special Investigation Team (SIT) chief M. Chandrasekhar filed a complaint against Union minister HD Kumaraswamy and his son Nikhil Kumaraswamy, accusing them of threatening him, an FIR was registered against father and MLA of Chikkanayakanahalli constituency, CB Suresh Babu, at North Division Sanjay Nagar police station, Bengaluru.
The FIR was registered on Monday evening under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section 224 (threat of injury to a public servant). Chandrasekhar in his October 11 complaint stated that as ADGP ISD and SIT, Lokayukta, he is investigating illegal mining cases. Kumaraswamy is one of the accused in one of the illegal mining cases with crime number 16/2024. During the investigation, police found additional evidence in the case. To take necessary action as per law, the SIT team approached the Governor of Karnataka seeking permission.
“Meanwhile, Kumaraswamy held a press conference in this regard on September 28 and 29, during which he made false and malicious allegations against me and also made threats. He threatened to have me removed from the Karnataka cadre and sent to another state cadre,” Chandrasekhar said in the complaint. He also made false accusations against my family members and threatened to verbally harass them. He further alleged that I was given fake medical certificates from Bowring Hospital and continued to serve in the Karnataka cadre post. He also made false statements saying that I had taken bribes, Chandrasekhar stated.
On September 29, Kumaraswamy’s son, Nikhil Kumaraswamy, also made false and malicious allegations against me at a press conference. Kumaraswamy’s close aide Suresh Babu leveled false allegations against me and wrote a letter of complaint to the chief secretary seeking action against me. He shared the letter on social media platforms and threatened me, he added in the complaint. The Sanjay Nagar police then registered a non-apparent register (NCR). The court on Tuesday gave permission to register the FIR.
A senior officer said, “We will conduct an inquiry into the officer’s allegations. The investigating officer will issue notices to the accused in the case to record their statements during the investigation.”
Responding to the officer’s complaint, Kumaraswamy then told the media, “I have spoken before the media and expressed my concerns on a few issues. When did I threaten him? He has filed a complaint, leave him alone, we will handle it to face.” in court. He or I should not be afraid of each other. Let the matter go to court, I don’t have to go anywhere. They have been investigating the case for the past twelve years. I never said that I will not undergo the investigation. It is all done politically by the state government and by him. We have a court and we will face it. I have confidence in the court, our lawyers will respond to the complaint,” Kumaraswamy said.
What is the case against Kumaraswamy?
The SIT is investigating the illegal mining cases. It is alleged that during his tenure as chief minister in 2007, Kumaraswamy illegally granted a mining lease of 550 acres to Sri Sai Venkateswara Minerals (SSVM) at Bhavihalli in Sandur taluk of Ballari district. SSVM is one of 24 companies that submitted a lease application and was awarded the mining lease.
