I was a Mormon trad woman. Stop promoting it, it’s more dangerous than smoking
A WOMAN reveals the ‘harsh reality’ of no longer being a traditional wife after 24 years of marriage, saying promoting the lifestyle is ‘more dangerous than cigarettes, p*rn or riding a motorbike without a helmet.’
Jennie Gage previously made headlines after calling on younger women not to get caught up in the trend.
Becoming independent was not an easy ride.
Jennie, who was also a Mormon for more than forty years, had to rebuild her entire life and sometimes “barely made ends meet.”
The mother of four children was ‘crying’ [her] car” because she could not afford food and lived with her four children in an apartment that she “could barely afford”.
Despite the initial hardships, the now 50-year-old has no regrets.
“I can safely say, despite everything, it [leaving the tradwife lifestyle] was the best decision of my life,” Jennie said What’s the jam.
“I just celebrated my six-year anniversary since leaving the Mormon church and losing my marriage—and I’m finally starting to find a new normal.
“After 24 years of marriage and 44 years of Mormonism, it has taken a long time to recover from the loss of my faith and husband.
“It feels like it took me so long to start building a life for myself after losing everything – but I’m slowly getting there.
“Although it wasn’t easy.
“Not long ago I was crying in my car because I couldn’t afford the groceries.
“We [also] had to move out of the house we were renting from a relative, which was a huge shock and financial burden.
“It was very sad.
“Instead of, [my children and I] moved to a small apartment that we can barely afford.”
Jennie, from Arizona, US, decided to leave her faith and marriage behind for good in October 2018.
Since then, she has worked hard to live a safe life for herself and her family, including the children [not named for privacy reasons] 28, 24, 21 and 15 years old.
She used to have a furniture store, but no longer has the space for it and is therefore working hard to replace it [her] income”.
The mother is determined to help other women.
She has created a new company called ‘Man Proof Your Life’, a program that helps women avoid and recover from the traditional female lifestyle.
She said: “I run support groups for women like me who have lost their traditional families through divorce.
What is a traditional woman?
A traditional wife (short for traditional wife) is a woman who chooses to take on an ultra-traditional role in marriage, meaning she prepares dinner and looks pretty while her husband goes to work.
The trend is inspired by the idea of a housewife from the 1950s.
Many ‘trad women’ choose to dress in the clothing style that is popular during this period (think floral dresses and frumpy cardigans).
Furthermore, the values considered important for traditional women are similar to strict Christian values.
Traditional women believed that they were not forced into this way of life, and that their purpose was to be homemakers.
The trend, which has gained attention on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, glorifies a bygone era when little attention was paid to the economic challenges families and mothers face today.
“I do everything I do because I had nowhere to turn when my marriage ended.
“I was all alone with absolutely nothing and I don’t want other women to have to go through what I went through alone.
“This is literally the best thing I’ve ever done in my life and sometimes it doesn’t even feel real.
“It’s great to be able to help change the future of individual women, and to help my children have a better life.
“Our current slogan is: ‘For Our Daughters’ because I help shape a better future for our daughters.”
Jennie, who is now an atheist, is also working on a documentary and book about her life, including tips and advice, in an effort to show the ‘true side’ of being a traditional wife.
And even though she’s happier than ever now, she’s still working on her past.
She added, “I lost my entire family when I left the church.
“Yes, I have had to overcome enormous obstacles, but here I am, waking up in an apartment with a bed to sleep in and food in the refrigerator.
“These traditional women online aren’t actually traditional women at all.
“We were taught to stay at home while the men made all the money.
‘But this one [the trad wives in the public eye and on social media] earn quite a lot, which goes against the beliefs we are taught.
“They are more dangerous than cigarettes, p*rn or riding a motorcycle without a helmet.
“The lifestyle they promote is potentially deadly and I hate them all.”
