Knead a break? You can now stay in a cottage on Dorset’s iconic ‘Hovis Hill’

Ready for a break? Then try this wonderful rental house: it will be a bread-changing experience.

The house is located on the famous ‘Hovis Hill‘ – the track made famous by breadmaker Hovis’s 1973 ‘Boy on Bike’ commercial, shot by director Sir Ridley Scott early in his career.

The cobbled street lined with chocolate boxes is actually called Gold Hill and curves through Shaftesbury, Dorset – which at 750 feet above sea level is one of England’s loftiest villages.

The rental property – the Grade II listed Button Cottage – is available from holidaycottages.co.uk and is located about half way up the hill.

It sleeps two people and is described as a ‘luxurious retreat’.

Inside, guests will find ‘rustic beams’, ‘a charming woodburning stove’ and a courtyard garden with views over Blackmore Vale.

Holidaycottages.co.uk continues: ‘Built from Shaftesbury Abbey stone following its dissolution, a meticulous renovation was completed in 2024 and is evident from the moment you enter the inviting living/dining room.

‘Exposed brickwork, beams, subtle Farrow and Ball paint colors and a fireplace with woodburning stove all create a warm and homely atmosphere.

‘There is space for comfortable dining and carefully arranged furniture, dressed with care in Susie Watson fabrics.

‘Cleverly designed to maximize space, a double door leads into the room, where a stylish shower sits against the back wall and more beautiful natural materials can be admired.’
