Australian counterpart on stage, EAM S Jaishankar criticizes Canada

The incident came amid Canada’s diplomatic row with India over allegations by Ottawa that Indian government officials had approved attacks on Sikhs in Canada. India has maintained that Canada has never provided any evidence to support its claims.
“You would have first seen a statement from our official spokesperson and also the expression of concern from our Prime Minister,” Jaishankar said.
“Let me make three observations: one, Canada has developed a pattern of making accusations without providing details. Second, when we look at Canada, for us… our diplomats under surveillance is something that is unacceptable,” he said. he.
“The third is the incident that the gentleman talked about, just look at the video. I think that will, in a way, tell the story of the political space given to extremist forces there,” the minister added.
Wong said she discussed with Jaishankar allegations that India had targeted Sikh activists in Canada. “We have made our concerns clear… We have said we respect Canadian justice,” Wong said.
“We convey our views to India as you would expect from us and we have a principled position on issues such as the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary and also, frankly, the sovereignty of all countries.”
Australia has close intelligence-sharing ties with Canada as members of the Five Eyes alliance that also includes the United States, Britain and New Zealand.
