US more cautious on global commitments since Obama: Jaishankar as US presidential results roll in
NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday said the United States is expected to adopt a lake inward-facing postureregardless of the identity of the next president.
He said the election result was unlikely to change the established pattern in US foreign policy at an event in Canberra.
‘The US has probably become much more cautious since President Barack Obama global obligations” said Jaishakar.
“President Trump may be more vocal and expressive in that regard,” he added during a discussion with the Australian and New Zealand foreign ministers.
EAM further said it is important to view U.S. policy through a national lens rather than solely from the ideological perspectives of current administrations.
“If we really analyze them, I think we have to prepare for a world where the kind of dominance and largesse that the US had in the early days may not continue,” Jaishankar said.
