The efforts of the White House to reduce financing for NPR and PBS is starting to come into effect. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which supports NPR and PBS, said in a statement on Tuesday that the Ministry of Education had terminated a federal subsidy program that has financed shows for children.

The abrupt cancellation of the subsidy program, called Ready to Learning, resulted in a loss of $ 23 million that would have gone to educational shows and games of children. The First episode of the terminated subsidy was granted by the first Trump administration in 2020.

Patricia Harrison, the president and chief executive of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, criticized the move and said that almost all parents showed their children that the program is financed.

“We will collaborate with the congress and the administration to maintain financing for this essential program,” she said in a statement.

The Ready to Learn-Grant, which is managed by the Corporation for Public Omroep and assigned to PBS and local stations, has funded historically well-known children’s programs, including “Sesam Street”, “Reading Rainbow” and “Clifford the Big Red Dog”. The five -year subsidy would expire at the end of September.

In a statement, Madi Biedermann, a spokeswoman for the Department of Education, said the Ready to Learn subsidies ‘Racial Justice Educational Programming’.

“The Trump Department of Education will give priority to financing that supports meaningful learning and improve the results of students, not wake up division ideologies and propaganda,” said the statement.

Last week, the White House issued an executive order that the company for public broadcaster and federal agencies obliged to immediately stop the financing with NPR and PBS. Both organizations sworn to resist the orderThey said they would rob Americans in the United States of news and educational programming.

The order was part of a decades of Republicans campaign to weaken public media in the United States. In recent months, the Republicans introduced a bill at Defund NPR and PBS and made them plans claw back Congress financing for the organizations. Last week, the White House tried to fire Administrative directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a movement that opposed the company to the court.
