Android 15 could bring new accessibility feature for color blindness
Android 15 – the next major operating system for Android devices – is expected to roll out later this year. It was first teased in February, when Google declared last month that it had achieved “platform stability,” allowing developers to integrate new features into their apps. Ahead of the official rollout, a new report suggests that the update could bring a new accessibility feature in the form of a color correction intensity slider, aimed at helping those with color blindness.
New accessibility feature on Android 15
According to a report According to Android Authority, an intensity slider for the color correction feature could be introduced with Android 15. For those unaware, the feature will allow users with color blindness to select one of the color correction modes depending on their color vision deficiency.
It is said to bring three intensity values: low, medium and high. Users will reportedly be able to manually adjust the intensity of the color correction that occurs when a certain mode is selected, to compensate for the specific degree of their inability to see colors, namely deuteranomaly, protanomaly or tritanomaly.
The report notes that the feature was not available in Android 15 Beta 3.1, which was released earlier this month, but had to be manually enabled.
Other accessibility features
In addition to an intensity slider for color correction, Android 15 also tipped to provide an easier way to toggle screen magnification. It can be activated via a new double-tap gesture with two fingers, allowing people with visual impairment to toggle it quickly, instead of having to dig through the smartphone settings to activate it.
In addition, the update is also said to bring an “easy pre-set” function that can improve readability by enlarging the text and icons, and add the three navigation buttons on the screen at the bottom. In addition, the function would also add contrast and make text and icons bold.
Google says Android 15 has achieved platform stability. The update is already available in beta for developers and is expected to be rolled out to the public later this year.
