Netflix has officially announced this Stranger things season 5 will air sometime in 2025 – and confirm what year it’s set in.
Revealing the news on Stranger Things Day – aka November 6, the in-universe date Will Byers went missing in 1983 – Netflix revealed that the hugely popular show will return sometime next year. The streaming titan also confirmed that it will take place in the fall of 1987 (that’s fall for non-US readers). Season 5 will then take place approximately 18 months later Stranger things end of season 4.
The streaming giant has not confirmed when Stranger thingsThe fifth and final season was actually supposed to debut, but since filming wouldn’t take place until December, we already knew Stranger things season 5 would not be released in 2024. Still, it’s good to know that we don’t have to wait until 2026 to watch the show’s fifth season.
These revelations were not the only ones that greeted Stranger things fans during this year’s annual celebration of the franchise. Netflix has also chosen to reveal the episode titles for all of Season 5’s chapters, which you can watch below. Let the fans start theorizing about what they’re teasing, especially the title of episode 2!
- Episode 1 – The Creep
- Episode 2 – The Disappearance of [Redacted]
- Episode 3 – The Fall of the Turning Arch
- Episode 4 – Wizard
- Episode 5 – Shockjock
- Episode 6 – Escape from Camazotz
- Episode 7 – The Bridge
- Episode 8 – Right Side Up
This isn’t the first time the world’s top streaming service has dropped episodic hints about Season 5. In November 2022, Netflix revealed the title for the opening episode of the upcoming season, which led me to come up with four major theories about what Season 5 is. The title of the first episode could mean real. However, the addition of the other seven episodic names may make me reconsider what I suspected from Episode 1’s title.
Today’s revelations are the most striking pieces of information we’ve received in a while about the fifth episode of one of Netflix’s best shows. With the main story of the hugely successful sci-fi horror drama franchise set to wrap up next year, Netflix is being extremely cautious about pulling Season 5.
That said, there have been some interesting bits of information teased by those involved with the series and the streamer itself. On July 16, Stranger Things 5The very first teaser revealed new characters, fan-favorite team-ups, and another time jump, which was confirmed by the aforementioned late ’80s reveal. Before that behind-the-scenes look disappeared on Season 5, we only knew of one new cast addition, with Terminator star Linda Hamilton joining the cast. Stranger Things 5 selection in June 2023. However, Netflix’s behind-the-curtain peak also confirmed that Nell Fisher, Alex Breaux, and Jake Connelly were also part of the proceedings.
Meanwhile, Maya Hawke, who plays Robin, suggested two weeks earlier that season 5 will consist of “basically eight movies” – a statement that implies the upcoming season’s episodes will be very, very long. It sounds like Stranger things season 5 will also be the show’s deadliest yet, although Elf actor Millie Bobby Brown has admitted that she doesn’t really want her character to die after previously joking about such a possibility.
Excited like me and everyone else Stranger things fan is talking about all this news, we are still no closer to actually seeing some footage that will really send us all into a frenzy. That’s despite hackers claiming they made pirated copies of the first three episodes of season 5, which could have been their way of forcing Netflix to release a teaser trailer earlier than expected. If that was their goal, it didn’t work: Netflix opted to release another behind-the-scenes look at Season 5 during Geeked Week 2024, which didn’t tell us anything new. So the long wait for a good trailer continues.
