The Worldcoin Foundation launched a developer preview of the upcoming World Chain project on Monday, allowing developers to test out the upcoming blockchain mainnet. World Chain Developer Preview Launched
Rather than opting for the traditional method of testing an upcoming mainnet (using a testnet designed to help developers identify potential issues with the upcoming mainnet), the Worldcoin Foundation has opted to have developers test the blockchain on the open-source development framework OP Stack.
“Worldcoin user transactions currently account for approximately 44 percent of OP Mainnet activity, making it the largest application on the network. This often rises to over 80 percent during peaks, and sometimes exceeds limits,” the Worldcoin Foundation said in a announcement on Monday.
The World Chain is designed to allow Web3 developers to leverage its scalability feature to connect to over 10 million on-chain users in 160 countries with compatible wallets.
The Worldcoin Foundation has decided to keep this blockchain ‘permissionless’ so that ‘all of humanity’ can govern it.
“Anyone can submit transactions to World Chain, but transactions made by verified people are prioritized for faster confirmation times. Verified addresses also get a stipend of some free gas,” the Worldcoin Foundation said.
The World Chain blockchain is scheduled to launch later this year, but the Worldcoin Foundation has not yet released concrete timelines.
The controversial Worldcoin project aims to provide people with universal proof of ownership, called “World IDs.” This ID will distinguish humans from bots and eliminate the need for people to reveal personal information on the web.
To obtain this World ID, people must agree to an iris scan via Worldcoin’s biometric device, the Orb.
Several governments have expressed concerns about Worldcoin’s eye-scanning collections, citing threats to the safety of their citizens. Several have already signed up for the project.
The project will be available from Wednesday collected more than six million global ID verifications. In the past seven days, 143,620 new accounts have been created as part of the project. In addition, the number of WLD tokens claimed by project users has surpassed 208 million.
