An Aussie cruise ship passenger drowns near the island of Boracay

An Australian cruise ship passenger has drowned while swimming on an island in the Philippines.

The 71-year-old died after disembarking from the MS Noordam cruise ship near Boracay Island at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The man was pulled from the water unconscious after calling for help as he struggled to stay afloat in the water.

Malaysian MPS operations chief Lieutenant Joerelyn Requintin said the man had been swimming with several people.

“After disembarking from the cruise ship with other passengers, they swam near the Cagban Jetty Port, about 10 meters from the shore,” he told Panay News.

Emergency services rushed the man to Ciriaco S. Tirol Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
