There are more expensive TVs on this list, but the affordable TCL 4 Series Roku TV will make both the gift giver and recipient happy. Picture quality was just a small step behind the Vizio V series (also on this list) in our budget TV test, and the differences between the two are so small that you should really have them lined up side by side to notice at all none of it.
The 4 Series lacks the Dolby Vision, Bluetooth connectivity, and AMD FreeSync with a variable refresh rate, all of which the Vizio offers. The advantage of the 4 Series over the Vizio is that it comes with the excellent built-in Roku Smart TV system. That makes it an excellent choice for those looking for an all-in-one smart TV solution, without having to add an external streaming device.
