An 87-year-old great-grandmother who died after being hit by a stranger on the floor at a train station in Birmingham, had tried to break an argument at a fun a manger, MailOnline can reveal.
Dorothy Chiles suffered a broken hip and other injuries in the mean attack in Birmingham New Street and died six weeks later.
Now MailOnline has discovered what happened in the minutes prior to the fatal attack – and learned how brave Dorothy had actually tried to calm the woman who would take her out because she saw that she was in need.
The horrific incident actually happened on November 19 last year, but only came to the public after the British transport police revealed earlier this week that Dorothy had died as a result of what they called an 'act of meaningless violence'.
It happened after a row started when two strangers bumped into each other – and one made a racist comment, with Dorothy's some involvement as a peacemaker.
And an eyewitness of the attack said: “The old lady tried to calm her down, but the woman just hit her violently. She was killed because of her kindness. '
MailOnline has traced two eyewitnesses to the entire series of events that have led to the fatal attack – and their accounts are remarkably comparable.
The first explained how the row started immediately outside the fun concession when two women in opposing directions ran into the hall bumped into each other.
This led to a row between the couple after one of the two, a white woman, made a racist remark about the second woman who was black.

The row started right outside the fun concession (depicted) when two women walking against each other in opposite directions
The row then continued while the second woman went into the sandwich outlet and the first woman still floated just outside.
While other people also caught up, pulled her up for the racist comment, the white woman always got up and tried to calm her down and harm the situation that Dorothy approached her – just to be shocked on the floor.
A man who saw the entire episode unfold, revealed: 'The older lady had approached the much younger white woman who shouted and shouted against staff and customers in fun. “The woman was clearly very agitated and got worse.
“She shouted things about how she was autistic and said people pick her.
'When the older lady came closer to try to comfort her, the younger woman turned around without warning and hit her back on the floor.
'It was a bit of a blow with a closed fist and it pushed her around.
“The older woman remained stretched out on the floor and the staff of the train station and other commuters hurried to help her before she was treated by paramedics and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.”
He added: 'I am so sad to hear that she has died. She just tried to do the right thing and calm down this woman. It is a terrible result. '
A second witness explained how the entire incident had been fueled only a few minutes earlier when the woman who would meet Mrs. Chiles came across for the first time and was then accused of making a racist comment against a black woman.
The second witness said: 'The reason that the woman was so angry in the first place was because she had taken an exception to what happened a few minutes earlier just outside fun.

“She had walked through the station and was almost against a black woman.
“She started to argue and apparently made a racist blemish.
'The black woman went into fun and the white woman was still hanging around – sitting on a chair just outside fun.
“Other people started to try her about the use of racist language.
“This seemed to arouse her even more.
“She screamed loudly and said,” Why are you going to try me? Why do you tackle me? I have autism '.
“As she became more and more angry and upset, then the older lady who stood in the neighborhood came to comfort her or calm down – but instead she was attacked for her kindness.”
The police say that a woman in the twenties was arrested on suspicion of GBH, but was later held on suspicion of manslaughter and was released on conditional bail in anticipation of further questions.
In a sincere tribute by BTP, her family said: 'Dorothy was the heart and soul of our family – a lively, extroverted lady whose energy was contagious.
'At 87 she kept as active as always, gardening, driving and helping her family. We all loved her.
'Tragically enough, Dorothy was attacked in an act of meaningless violence, and although she fought with the same power that she wore, her injuries turned out to be too serious.
“She died shortly thereafter and had our family completely destroyed by the loss of our beloved matriarch.”
The statement continued: 'Dorothy was more than a mother, grandmother and great -grandmother – she was a best friend, a leading light and a source of endless joy.

“Her laughter, wisdom and relentless love will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever live in the hearts of those who cherish her.”
The police confirmed that a post-mortem investigation had been carried out and the cause of death of Mrs. Chiles continues to be investigated.
But officers deal with it as if it is linked to the reported attack.
BTP said that officers would still like to speak with a man who witnessed the incident.
He is described as a long, white man in his early 1930s, with a short satural beard.
The police said he was wearing a brown knitted hat, black framed glasses, a black woolen Peacoat with double rice, beige chino pants, dark gray gloves, light gray scarf, black shoes and black backpack.
Detective inspector Ian Wright said: 'This is a particularly shocking incident and I would like to express our sincere participation to the family of Dorothy who are supported by officers, and ask that their privacy is respected in this incredibly difficult time.
'The investigation into this incident is underway and I would encourage everyone who witnessed the incident, including the aforementioned man, to come forward and help our questions.
