'Ek hai toh safe hai': PM Modi's new pitch after Yogi Adityanath's 'batenge toh katenge' slogan
NEW DELHI: As the opposition continued to attack the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s sloganBatenge toh katenge‘ (will be slaughtered, if divided), Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a new pitch in Maharashtra on Friday — ‘Ek hai toh safe hi‘ (We are only safe when we are united).
Prime Minister Modi accused the Congress of pitting one caste against another and at an election rally in Dhule asked the people to remain united.Ek hi, safe hi.”
“The only agenda of the Congress party is to pit one caste against another. They don’t want SCs, STs and OBCs to progress and get due recognition… Remember: ‘Ek hai toh safe hi‘ he said.
PM’s new slogan comes amid row over Yogi Adityanath’s ‘Batenge toh katenge‘ pitch. The phrase was first used by the UP CM at a rally in Agra in the context of Hindu minorities being victims of violence in Bangladesh. Later, Prime Minister Modi and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat also made similar pleas for Hindu unity. During his annual Vijaya Dashami address this year, Bhagwat said that “being disorganized and weak is like inviting atrocities by the wicked”.
Yogi Adityanath had also repeated the slogan at an election rally in Maharashtra while campaigning for ruling Mahayuti.
At his first campaign rally in Maharashtra for the upcoming November 20 assembly elections, Prime Minister Modi opened a frontal attack on the Congress, stating that the party and its family have stood against reservations since Nehru’s era, and are now in their fourth generation of ‘yuvraj’. [Rahul Gandhi] promotes caste division.
“Since Nehru’s time, Congress and his family were against reservations and now their fourth generation ‘yuvraj’ (prince) is working on caste division,” Modi said.
He alleged that the Congress-led INDIA bloc was trying to remove the Constitution from Jammu and Kashmir while strongly stating that the restoration of Article 370 was impossible under any circumstances.
The Prime Minister also accused the coalition of misleading Dalits and Adivasis by proposing blank books as the constitution.
He warned Congress and its allies against advancing the “Pakistani agenda” or using separatist rhetoric, claiming such efforts would fail as long as he had public support.
“Only Ambedkar’s Constitution will be followed in J&K. You must have seen on TV how a resolution was introduced in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on bringing back Article 370 and when BJP MLAs protested, they were thrown out. The country and Maharashtra should understand this,” Modi said.

Kharge targets BJP over UP CM’s slogan; Ajit Pawar distances himself

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday accused the BJP of having ‘rotten thoughts’ for believing in ‘Batenge toh katenge‘.
‘The BJP has some rotten thoughts, it believes in’Batenge toh katengeKharge had said while addressing an election rally in Ranchi.
Meanwhile, NCP chief Ajit Pawar indirectly distanced himself from UP CM’s slogan saying that people from ‘outside’ make such statements but Maharashtra has always maintained communal harmony. “No one should compare Maharashtra with the other states. The people here have always ensured harmony in the community. Some from outside come here and make statements, but Maharashtra has never accepted any division in the community. The state follows the secular ideology of Shahu (Maharaj), (Jyotiba) ) Phule and (Babasaheb) Ambedkar,” he said.
