They are more budget-friendly and provide a path to homeownership for those who cannot afford larger properties or who want to avoid debt.

Millennials and Generation

They also include Clara Trindall and her partner, from Australia, who managed to get their hands on an old Coca-Cola truck and converted the vehicle into a beautiful house on wheels.

The thrifty Aussie duo share their journey on TikTok, proudly showing viewers what the truck looked like when they first bought it – and after the makeover was complete.

Clara explained that when they bought it, the truck was completely empty, had no walls and was used for deliveries in Sydney.

But with some DIY skills and odd jobs, the clever couple gave it a whole new look by adding walls to the sides, making the truck “look like a little wooden cabin.”

“And the curtains still close, which is good,” Clara said, adding that this could activate “stealth” mode in no time.

The inside had also been renovated from top to bottom, with a brand new kitchen layout and all the other necessities for life on the road.

Clara impressed other social media users with the breathtaking glow and gave viewers a glimpse into their epic home, which features a stove, oven, beautiful worktop and cupboards to store all the essentials.

Meanwhile, the lounge area in the back of the truck came in, she said the videocan also be ”turned into a bed” with a window above to admire the skylight.

I got tired of paying the rent, so I moved into a shed at the bottom of my garden

There was also an extra table to the side for the Australian couple to enjoy their meals, as well as extra storage space.

Needless to say, the epic transformation has taken the internet by storm, with the clip racking up over 356,000 views and hundreds of comments.

Amazed by the before and after results, social media users rushed to share their thoughts, with one writing: ”That looks fantastic. I love it.”

The rise of small houses

By Jonathan Rolande

Real estate expert Jonathan Rolande told Fabulous: The reason we’re seeing more creative ways to find a home: super high real estate prices and rents. Younger people continue to live in their parental home later in life to avoid high prices and save for a deposit. As life becomes busier and busier, it makes sense to stay within a larger family group; chores such as gardening and housework can be shared.

Garages are rarely used for their intended purpose, because cars are much more reliable and less susceptible to rust and can therefore enjoy themselves outside. On the other hand, the amount of property space per person has decreased – converting a garage can make a lot of sense.

Things to consider. (the boring things)

Usually easier than building from scratch, but a lot still needs to be done to turn a garage into a habitable space.

You should check whether you need planning (this is more likely if the garage is detached).

Building codes stipulate many things to make homes safe. To consider

Walls, are they cavity walls?

Roof height

Windows

How do you connect plumbing, electricity and drainage?

Insulation – it’s getting cold!

Fire safety

Moisture proofing

Also consider whether the conversion will add or subtract value from the main home. Garages can add value in busy urban areas where parking is limited.

Many added that they had been skeptical when Clara first showed the truck at the start of their trip, but were amazed.

”I have to admit that when I saw him sanding the rust, I definitely didn’t think this! This is so amazing,” another fan praised the couple.

Someone else said: ‘The best truck/van renovation I’ve ever seen. Leaving the curtains open is so smart.”

Another asked: ”Can you do mine for me because that’s great, great work, you can start your own business.”

”Usually you see these builds and people run through them. I can tell you took your time and did it right. This build turned out amazing,” one viewer wrote.
