‘Sexual misconduct of the middle class’ / ‘creditors’
Together a new company starts by Hugh Jackman and the producer Sonia Friedman, with two plays presented in repertoire in the Minetta Lane Theater, in collaboration with Audible. Jackman himself plays the leading role in the ‘sexual misconduct of the middle class’ of Hannah Moscovitch next to Ella Beatty – and when was the last time we saw him in such an intimate space? From 10 May the show will alternate with a new adjustment by August Strindberg’s “Creditors” by Jen Silverman (“The Roomate”), starring Liev Schreiber, Maggie Siff and Justice Smith. ‘Goddess’
Michael Thurber and Saheem Ali’s New musicWith extra book material from James Ijames, takes place in a nightclub in Mombasa, Kenya. Ali directs in the public theater, where he organized the hit game ‘Fat Ham’ of Joames before switching to Broadway. Amber Iman (“Lempicka”) plays Nadira, a singer who is actually the title of Deity, Marimba, the ruler of music. (Up to and including 8 June, public theater)
‘Bowl EP’
Skating? Been there, done on stage, from “Starlight Express” to “Kimberly Akimbo.” Skateboarding is a much rarer beast. Now the Vineyard Theater gets an in-the-round makeover to house the new game of Nazareth Hassan about Hiphop and the culture that gave us Ollies and Airwalks. A co -production with National Black Theater in collaboration with the new group. (Up to and including 8 June, Vineyard Theater)
You cannot blame Colman Domingo (“Rustin”, “Sing Sing”) for concentrating on acting in recent years – he gets the recognition and roles he has long earned. Yet it is nice to see him return to Playwriting, in collaboration with Patricia McGregor (who also directed). The story – improved with musical songs – takes place in 1957, in the last night of the TV program organized by the silky voice wet “King” Cole (Dulé Hill). He just stopped after ending constant intolerance and pressure of the network and the national advertisers, and has a lot on his mind. Daniel J. Watts also plays the leading role as Sammy Davis Jr. (Up to and including 29 June, New York Theater workshop)
‘The last bimbo of the Apocalypse’
The title of this new musical by Michael Breslin and Patrick Foley (“Circle Jerk”) is a reference to one New York Post Headline from 2006 About Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears. The show imagines that the unholy three unit was actually a quartet – but what happened to the last member? An internet tracker is played by Milly Shapiro, one of the four little girls who won Tony Honors for Excellency in Theater in 2013 when they alternated in the lead role of “Matilda the musical.” (Up to and including 8 June; the new group)
‘Bus stop’
This co-production of Classic Stage Company, the National Asian American Theater Company and Transport Group revised An William Inge game from 1955 that takes place in a Kansas restaurant, where the staff members have to share for a few hours with bus passengers that are stranded on a snowstorm. The director Jack Cummings III is on familiar territory, with excellent generations of Inge’s “Come back, little sheba” and “picnic” In 2017. (8 May 8 June, classic stage company)
“A (u) nts!”
The new game by the actress and writer Zoë Geltman is about aunts (three women who work in one dental practice) and ants. That is all we know about the show, but because it is performed at the experimental hotspot The Brick Theater, it is a safe gamble that it will not be your average game. More incentives to view it: Geltman is a promising, emerging voice and the beautiful Megan Hill – a memorable David Lee Roth in the Off Broadway Comedy “Eddie and Dave” – Stars next to Geltman and Jehan O. ‘The imaginary invalid’

‘Eurydice’
The breakthrough game of Sarah Ruhl has had a whole journey in recent decades, including one Opera -adjustment With the composer Matthew Aucin in 2020. Now Signature Theater brings the show, who places Orpheus’ wife in the middle of the story, back to New York with Maya Hawke in the title role and Brian d’Arcy James as her father. The annual SummerWorks series of the Clubbed Thumb Company – one of the most reliable rewarding showcases of the city of new plays – starts with the newest from Milo Cramer (“School photos”). The show follows the efforts of a mother and her daughter who come with entrepreneurial ideas to make it in a performance and service economy. (14-27 May, The Wild Project)
‘Lunar eclipse’
Reed Birney and Lisa Emery portray a few that after decades of marriage has the balance, while thinking about the title event on their farm in Kentucky; The playwright Donald Margulies (“Dinner with Friends”) said that the show was inspired by his relationship with his father -in -law, a farmer in Kentucky. This is the first second phase production in the new house of the company at the Signature Complex. (14 May 25 June, the Pershing Square Signature Center)
‘Seagull: True Story’
The director Alexander Molochnikov has been persona non grata in Moscow since the start of the Ukraine War, so his last project is opened in New York. Targeted and directed by Molochnikov, and written by Eli Rarey, says “Seagull: True Story” The story of a Russian director, Kon (Eric Tabach), that attempt to organize “The Seagull” by Chekhov – but how? Where? Presented in La Mama (who also presented works by the Russian theater maker in exile Dmitry Krymov) in collaboration with Mart Foundation and and Garde Arts. (16 May 12 June, La Mama)
‘Angry Alan’
John Krasinski returns to the stage in the monologue of Penelope Skinner about toxic masculinity from the perspective of a man consumed by his grievances and anger. Sam Gold directs this range of Seaview Productions, which has built an impressive CV (“Good Night and Good Luck”, “Romeo + Juliet”), and presents the show in his own space, Studio Seaview.
