‘We prioritize development, not votes’: Congress members hit back at BJP poll promise allegations | India News – Times of India
Ahead of the Assembly elections in Maharashtra, Telangana CM A Revanth Reddy said, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhuand Karnataka deputy CM DK Shivakumar joined forces to defend their states’ record, pointing out that Congress-led policies have had a positive impact on their regions.
Shivakumar on Karnataka’s five guarantees
Karnataka deputy CM invited leaders of the BJP-led “Mahayuti” alliance – comprising the BJP, NCP and Shiv Sena – to witness first-hand the Congress’ welfare initiatives in Karnataka. “All three of us are here to show what we promised and what we delivered. I was surprised when I saw fake advertisements of BJP allies yesterday,” Shivakumar said.
“We prioritize people’s development, not votes. The BJP has now started copying our assurances as they recognize its effectiveness,” he added, accusing the BJP of usurping the Congress’ plans.
Reddy responds to allegations over economic and agricultural policies
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Highlighting the state’s efforts to create jobs, he said 50,000 youth jobs had been created within ten months. He criticized the BJP for failing to boost Maharashtra’s economy and alleged that significant investments were being diverted to Gujarat.
Reddy also expressed strong views on agricultural policy, alleging that ‘black laws’ imposed by the BJP-led central government would leave farmers at the mercy of big corporations.
“In India, Maharashtra has the highest number of farmer suicides. Prime Minister Modi wanted to hand over farmers to Adani and Ambani through these laws,” Reddy said, condemning recent comments by BJP leaders on Telangana governance.
Sukhu criticizes ‘Operation Lotus’
Amid the growing chatter between the BJP and Congress over Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s Samosa row, he said, “Pawan Khera offered me a samosa, and I asked whether politics here is about snacks or real development .”
Sukhu criticized ‘Operation Lotus’ – a term used by the Congress to describe alleged BJP attempts to destabilize rival governments through monetary influence – and warned Maharashtra voters of the potential dangers of such tactics. He defended his government’s initiative to reintroduce the old pension scheme, highlighting it as a move that has “benefited people immensely.”
