'40 days in hotels': Ashok Gehlot shares when BJP tried to topple Congress government in Rajasthan
NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot on Monday shared his experience as a victim of horse-trading by the central government when his government was in power in Rajasthan.
“These are important elections…To topple a government through horse-trading – I faced this in Rajasthan for 40 days. We stayed in hotels for 40 days. We know how we faced them,” Gehlot said without naming names.
“If India’s senior leaders succeed in overthrowing the government, then it will be very easy for them. I would like to thank the general public… Everyone supported us and we were able to save our government. But this tradition is not good,” he added.
In 2020, Gehlot, the then Rajasthan CM, had accused Congress leader Sachin Pilot of engaging in horse trading with the BJP. He had also accused the BJP of indulging in “horse trading” for the Rajya Sabha elections.
“The Rajya Sabha elections could have been held two months ago, but they were postponed without any reason as the BJP’s horse-trading was not complete,” he had said.
