BJP complains to the European Commission over Rahul Gandhi's comment that the Constitution is in danger
NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India against Rahul Gandhi’s claim that the saffron party wanted to ‘destroy the Constitution’. The party has also sought filing of an FIR against the Leader of Opposition under Section 353 of the BNS.
“A BJP delegation met the Chief Election Commissioner today. We told him that LoP Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi tried to lie again on November 6 for the Maharashtra elections. He tried to pit states against each other, he brandished the Constitution and has once again lied that the BJP is about to destroy the Constitution,” Union Minister and BJP leader Arjun Ram Meghwal said.
“This is not true. We have said that this must be stopped. We have also told the Commission that Rahul Gandhi is in the habit of doing this and is not deterred from doing so despite warnings and notices… We have said that there is a FIR should be filed against Rahul Gandhi under sec 353 of BNS,” he added.
This came after an FIR was filed against BJP’s Jharkhand unit for allegedly sharing false and misleading videos on social media, alleging violations of the Model Code of Conduct and other legal provisions.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had filed a complaint with the European Commission, alleging that the videos contained baseless allegations aimed at swaying voters against opposition parties in the ongoing war. Jharkhand Assembly Elections.
