GTA 6 performance issues on Xbox Series S not a problem for Take-Two
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X sometime in 2025. The game is likely to be a very demanding title that will push the current generation of consoles to their limits. The cheaper Xbox Series S has run into hardware bottlenecks in the past when it comes to new releases, and concerns have been raised about whether the console would be able to run GTA 6 without any issues. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has now downplayed these concerns, saying he has “no concerns” about GTA 6’s performance on the Xbox Series S.
Take-Two isn’t worried about GTA 6 on Xbox Series S
In Take-Two’s second quarter Earnings call for the 2025 financial yearZelnick was asked if there were any concerns about performance issues for GTA 6 on Xbox Series S, as it was “a lower spec console by design” and the next Grand Theft Auto title would likely push “a lot of boundaries” technically.
“We support the platforms where the consumers are as long as they are there, and we find a way to support platforms despite different levels of technology. Our labels are very good at that,” Zelnick responded.
“I’m not really worried. I’ve never worried about the hardware, and I’ve said that many times over the years. Because first and foremost, I don’t worry about things I have no control over
“And secondly, I believe in the audience. The public shows up when you have great properties. And so we need to make sure that we’re on a range of platforms, and if one platform declines in value, there’s always another. For example, we are currently seeing major growth in the PC area.”
Zelnick said that the PC would become an increasingly important part of the console business in the future and that supporting the platform would not be complicated for Take-Two.
“So the bottom line is that we are selective about which platforms we support. We make the technology work when we can make it work, as long as the audience is large enough to make it worthwhile,” Zelnick concludes.
Take-Two titles on PC
While the Take-Two boss spoke about PC platform support, it’s worth noting that GTA 6 has not yet been confirmed for a PC release and will likely get a delayed launch on the platform, just like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 Both games launched on consoles over a year after their initial release. Developer Rockstar Games released Red Dead Redemption on PC last month, more than 14 years after it first launched on PS3 and Xbox 360.
During its Q2 2025 earnings call, Take-Two said repeated it plans to release GTA 6 in fall 2025. The sequel to the hugely successful GTA 5 has been almost a year since its unveiling with a trailer in December 2024. Set in the Florida-inspired fictional US state of Leonida, Grand Theft Auto 6 returns to the iconic Vice City from previous titles in the series. The game does not have a confirmed release date yet.
