Tottenham Hotspur announce partnership with ExpressVPN – but will it really strengthen their defence?
Tottenham Hotspur today announced a new Digital Privacy Partner, ExpressVPN, in a two-year strategic agreement. The announcement calls on fans to “dare to do more” and is accompanied by an exclusive ExpressVPN offer for Spurs fans – although fans of other clubs should probably benefit too, as an extra six months have been added to the plan.
Promote innovation
Ankit Khemka, Chief Marketing Officer at ExpressVPN, said of the partnership that the club is a “true innovator in the sports industry,” which aligns with ExpressVPN’s goal to be “innovators in digital privacy and security.”
ExpressVPN’s goals are supported by the results, which we test regularly. It remains one of the best VPNs available today and ranks right up there in terms of the most secure VPN you can buy. However, I must apologize to the Spurs fans as our testing does not quite extend to set-piece defense and injury prevention yet!
Mixed reactions
The timing of Spurs’ announcement has been widely questioned by fans, with the club experiencing an unexpected Premier League defeat to newly promoted Ipswich Town this weekend.
At the time of writing, the announcement post on Many fans see this as yet another example of football business failure for the club, which has yet to achieve major success in recent years.
Meet @ExpressVPN – the club’s official digital privacy partner 🤝November 12, 2024
The partnership between ExpressVPN and Tottenham Hotspur marks ExpressVPN’s first global partnership in football, but VPNs haven’t been a completely silent market in sports.
NordVPN, our top-ranked VPN provider, has sponsored a number of clubs over the years, including Liverpool in 2018, Rangers in 2021, Ipswich Town in 2023 – so the club got an early lead over Spurs here too – and Cardiff, Southend United and Reading in 2024. Surfshark also entered the market in recent years, in collaboration with the Swedish club AIK.
While the direct ties between the popular sport and cybersecurity may seem small, there are a number of key reasons why the partnership between Spurs and ExpressVPN makes sense. European away days can be made safer if you rely on public Wi-Fi abroad, buying tickets is less risky to your personal data and, most importantly, you can watch Spurs march in whether you’re in Britain or on holiday abroad.
Why choose ExpressVPN?
Football fans, Spurs and other breeds, will be happy to know that ExpressVPN’s current offering is seriously strong. Firstly, the provider has been a fixture in our best VPN rankings for years, secondly, ExpressVPN recently reduced its prices for the first time in fifteen years and finally, the deal is impressively good. So good that it even beats NordVPN.
