Verizon outage: Customers reporting problems with home internet service

Verizon internet customers began reporting issues with their service overnight and into the morning of Tuesday, November 12, with the majority of complaints coming from the East Coast.

According to Down detectormore than 41,000 reports flooded the site around midnight to 2 a.m. ET, slowed, and then started to rise again in the morning, but at a much slower pace. The most reported cities with Verizon outages were Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington, DC and Los Angeles. Some parts of the Midwest also appeared to be affected, according to Downdetector’s heatmap. (Downdetector is owned by the same parent company as CNET, Ziff Davis.)

As of Tuesday morning, Verizon, the nation’s largest wireless carrier, had not posted information about how widespread the outage is or when it might be fully resolved. The company acknowledged problems one Verizon Support response to a customer on was stated in a message about telephone lines on November 7.

“A network issue early this morning disrupted service for some Verizon Fios customers in the Northeast [for] a short period of time,” a company spokesperson said in a statement to CNET. “As soon as the issue was identified, our technical teams quickly restored service.”
