Terrorists attack search team in Kashmir, 8th gun battle in November
SRINAGAR: Kashmir Valley recorded its eighth gunfight between terrorists and security forces in November, with suspected Pakistani gunmen firing at a search party of soldiers and J&K police approaching a hideout in Bandipora District‘s Nagmarg area Tuesday.
The security forces responded with retaliatory fire. No casualties or injuries have been reported to either side so far and the operation is still ongoing, an official said.
There has been an increase in attacks and multiple fatalities since an elected government came to power in J&K in mid-October after six years in power. A JCO and two village defense guards were killed in Kishtwar on November 10 and 7, while an ambush at Gulmarg in Baramulla on October 24 killed two soldiers and two civilian porters. A migrant worker from Bihar was fatally shot in Shopian on October 18. followed by the killing of seven tunneling workers in Ganderbal on October 20.
The security counter-offensive resulted in the deaths of nine terrorists in Kashmir this month: two in Sagipora and Rajpura in Sopore on November 8 and 9, one each in Bandipora and Kupwara on November 6, two in Bandipora on November 5, and Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Usman among three in Srinagar and Anantnag on November 2. In J&K, the armed forces have gunned down at least 30 terrorists since May.
