'Operation Kawach': Delhi Police cracks down on drug trafficking, raids 907 locations, arrests 700+
Delhi Police has identified 64 narcotics trafficking hotspots and conducted raids at 907 locations in a round-the-clock operation known as ‘Operation KawachAnd of the 1,240 people detained, more than 700 were arrested, an official said Thursday.

Special Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Devesh Chandra Srivastava said that all Delhi Police units, including the Crime Branch, Special Cell and 15 district police forces, participated in this round-the-clock operation from November 12 to 13.
“All units detained 1,224 people during the operation that was carried out in 907 locations. We have arrested more than 700 people in the entire operation,” he said, news agency PTI reported.
During the operation, law enforcement teams seized 870.1 grams of heroin, 244.8 kilograms of ganja, 16.1 grams of cocaine and 434 grams of MDMA. Additional seizures include Rs 34,420 in cash, a gold chain weighing 20 grams, a motorcycle, a scooter and a tempo. They arrested fourteen persons in Arms Act cases, recovering six country-made pistols, nine live cartridges, eight knives and fifteen stolen motorcycles.
The official confirmed that teams have located 64 hotspots of narcotics trafficking in the capital. These locations will remain under constant surveillance.
“To the drug threat All those involved have been instructed by society to take strong, effective action against drug offenders. Delhi Police has arrested 1,268 drug offenders in 886 till October 31 NDPS cases and about 71.1 kilograms of heroin/smack, 1,293 kilograms of cocaine, 3,241 kilograms of ganja, 103 kilograms of opium, 50.5 kilograms of charas, 80.5 kilograms of poppy heads recovered,” the officer said.
“Some of the suspects are serial killers and some of the suspects were caught red-handed when they went to supply drugs. During these operations, the police also arrested a Nigerian involved in supplying drugs,” he added.
‘Operation Kawach’ represents a periodic initiative of Delhi Police aimed at tackling criminals drug traffickers within the national capital.
‘Operation Kawach’ began in May 2023 across Delhi and aimed at identifying and arresting people involved in trafficking in narcotics and distribution, the officer said.
Intelligence reports indicate that numerous major drug traffickers have gone into hiding, with key operators avoiding transport of commercial quantities to Delhi. Authorities reported prosecuting 44 people under the COTPA law.
