I gave my dated hallway and stairs a makeover with freebies and sale purchases from Argos
A WOMAN has revealed she gave her dated hallway and stairs a mega makeover without spending a lot of money.
So if you’re on a budget but want to give your home a total transformation, then you should check this out.
With the help of freebies and bargains, Melissa Walker was able to transform her hallway from boring to fabulous.
She threw away her ‘terrible’ green carpet and instead turned her space into the perfect leopard print paradise.
Delighted with her DIY job, which cost her less than £500 in total, Melissa took to social media to share a before and after look of her space.
Post on DIY on a budgeta private Facebook group with 2.2 million members, the smart woman left many open-mouthed with the renovation of her hallway.
Alongside photos of her once dated hallway, with green carpet, plain white walls and a dark brown banister, Melissa wrote: “I moved in January and have gotten my hallway almost the way I want it.”
Now Melissa’s space is super trendy, with chic paneling on the walls, stylish floors and a cool black banister.
Not only this, but she also said goodbye to the dated carpet and gave her stairs a cool look new look with leopard print carpet.
Melissa was clearly thrilled with the new look of her home and beamed: “Love a bit of DIY!”
Then she added: ‘I just need to clad the top of the first staircase between the two landings and paint my hallway doors.’
Melissa then gave Fabulous an in-depth breakdown of the cost of her makeover, which she said totaled less than £500.
Melissa told Fabulous that she ripped apart the old carpet and transformed her floor with ceramic tiles from Tile Warehouse.
She spent £450 on carpet for her stairs and landings, including the underlay and fittings from Online Carpets.

She then explained: “The paneling was left over from a friend for free, so all I had to do was buy dado rails etc from B&Q, for £15.
“The paint was from Levis and cost £20.

“Accessories I already had: lamp, lampshade and door cloth were on sale from Habitat.”
Melissa confirmed that she always shops around and loves a deal, as she confessed: “I love a bargain, always waiting for them, almost never getting anything at full price.
“The plant and stand were half price in Argos and TK Maxx.
“Wall art was eBay, TK Maxx and Asda.

“The round print is by a Devon artist and I used a £2.50 round Asda clock to frame it.
“I already had the ottoman, but I upcycled it using the same black paint and a wicker print DC Fix from eBay for £7.95.”
Not only did Melissa give her home a beautiful new look, but she did it cheaply, as she concluded: “The cost was less than £500.”
