A teenager died in a car accident while he was driven by a much older female guard of his school with whom he has slept for years, is claimed.
Jacob Pothier, 18, died in the Smash of January 2024 while traveling in the vehicle of Kathleen Martins in New Bedford, Massachusetts. The 45-year-old former employee of Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School survived but suffered brain damage.
His family demanded justice for him and claims that he had an “inappropriate sexual relationship” with Martins who started while working in high school, as reported by the New Bedford Light.
The Van Pothier family told the local news exit that the relationship began, while the boy was a 15-year-old student and she worked at his school, the couple kept seeing each other until his death.
They say that school officials were aware of the inappropriate relationship, but did not succeed in taking action before his tragic death.
Martins, who worked at the school until March 2023, told the New Bedford Light that she had nothing to say about Pothier.
It is said that she was placed in a temporary legal conservatory last year because of head injuries she sustained during the crash. That conservatory ended last September.
The age of permission in Massachusetts is 16.

Last year, the Pothier estate submitted a petition asking that school officials and Martins are testify and meet the claims about their involvement in the death of the teenager.
The family lawyer Scott Lang of the Pothier sent a letter to the school last June and accused managers of not protecting Pothier.

The letter claims that the school was involved in Pothier's unlawful death and is looking for compensation for personal and psychological injuries.
The Massachusetts law dictates such a letter must be sent before a civil lawsuit is filed against a public employer.
The letter named Martins and Chief Inspector Michael Watson and School Human Resources Director Nancy Markey.
'The expected nature of the action against VOC-Tech, Watson and Markey is for unlawful death, negligence and negligence of emotional need because of their failure to investigate and [their] Dealing with an inappropriate sexual relationship, “is the petition.

The Pothiers also hit the local police because they did not investigate the circumstances of the crash properly.
They claim that the teenager's mobile phone has never been sent back to them after the deadly crash. They say that the phone on the site was hedged where the crashed vehicle was dragged.
A Massachusetts Superior Court ruled at the end of last year that Martins can be dropped off by the Pothier estate, as reported by the Fall River Reporter.
Lawyers for Martins and the school have submitted motions to reject the complaint to drop off Martins. Both movements were refused.

Martins has never been accused of the alleged relationship, nor the car who killed Pothier.
