Jhansi Hospital fire: UP Dy CM Brajesh Pathak seeks action against officials after political row erupts over 'VIP welcome'
NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh is deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak on Saturday condemned the elaborate arrangements made ahead of his visit to the fire-hit Jhansi Hospital, where 10 newborns died, and asked the District Magistrate to take strict action against the person who had done the work.
In a video message, Pathak said, “Before I reached Jhansi Medical College, someone laid lime powder on the side of the road, which is very sad. I condemn this. And I would like to ask the District Magistrate to identify the person who made the mistake. the work done, and taking strong action against him, I will never accept this.”
This comes after the Opposition pointed guns at the Uttar Pradesh government, claiming that the grounds of the Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College were cleaned and lime was spread on the roads to welcome the Deputy Chief Minister.
“Look at the insensitivity of the BJP government. On one side, children were burned and their families wept and mourned. On the other hand, lime was spread on the roads to welcome the Deputy Prime Minister. The families even alleged that the entire site was filthy but it was cleared before the visit of the Deputy Chief Minister,” the Congress said in a social media post on X.

“While children are dying in fires, this government is busy cleaning up its image. Shameful!” it added.
In a video doing the rounds on social media, some workers are seen marking the road with lime powder.
The fire, which engulfed the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), is believed to have been caused by a short circuit. While ten newborns died, sixteen are said to be in critical condition.
A statement from the Uttar Pradesh government said that as soon as information about the incident was received, Adityanath sent Pathak and the head health care organization to the hospital.
The Samajwadi Party, an ally of the Congress, said government hospitals in Uttar Pradesh have become a den of misery, corruption and negligence. “There were no arrangements at the hospital to save the children… The BJP is a completely insensitive party. People are dying but these people will never take responsibility,” party spokesperson Juhie Singh said.
