My kitchen ‘looks like a new room’ after transforming it with a £22 purchase
A DIY SAVVY homeowner is impressed with her kitchen transformation achieved with an easy-to-use £22 purchase.
Fans of the budget-friendly decor described the kitchen as “new” and were desperate to recreate the results for themselves.
Emma Caley shared before and after photos of her kitchen on the Facebook group DIY on a budget officerwhich has more than 2 million members.
The room looked dated with wooden cabinets and red tiles before she started renovating it.
A photo of the updated kitchen showed it looking brighter, even with the blinds closed, after the cabinets and tiles were overhauled.
“Paint nice paint! Rust-oleum kitchen cabinet paint with matt finish £22 per can, covers in one coat but we did two,” said Emma.
“Tile paint rust oleum satin finish £22 per can, we applied 2 coats, new handles £12. Total £56.”
She revealed that a base coat and primer were not necessary before applying the first coat of paint.
She had simply soaped the surfaces with sugar instead of sanding the cabinets and covering them with paint.
“If you decide to paint your kitchen, I highly recommend using Rust-oleum paint with a matte finish. It is extremely durable because I have scrubbed it and the finish is great!” she added.
Emma described the blinds that were in the house before they bought it as a “good match” for the paint.
She also decided to keep the appliances and countertops in her kitchen the same.
Her clever choice of paint was enough to create an impressive transformation that racked up hundreds of likes and comments.
“Good job. Looking good,” one person wrote.
“Wow what a transformation!” said another.
“Wow, even the paint made the washing machine look different [laughing]’ chimed in a third.
“It looks like a new kitchen,” another commented.
